Re: Cracked Fipple issues on Freeman whistles

I have about 30 plastic head whistles, including 3 Freemans and have gifted another 2 Freemans and not a crack in the bunch. I'm funny about cracks; when I get a whistle that's new (to me) I do mind taping it or whatever and like it to be in sound (no pun intended) condition, period.

Re: The Problem with Brass Sindts and Clogging.

I have 3 Sindts, 2 brass, 1 sterling, all with the Sindt head of delrin with the brass "horseshoe." Never had a problem with any of them; in fact the sterling is my all-time go to favorite whistle ever and has been for close to 5 years now. OTOH, I've never really had a clogging problem wi...

Re: Just got a Sindt D

Without getting overly technical, I can just say that the Sindt D has been my everyday whistle for about 4 years now, and I have over 100 whistles.

Re: Paul Hayward - maker of Silkstone whistles

May he rest in peace. He also made a lovely line of speckled green and red PVC whistles - I still have the green in C -"PH 58 C." A talented and lovely maker.

Oh alright. It was an Oz soprano D in delrin with sterling silver hardware - all around one of the most beautiful, fun to play, delicious sounding whistles on the planet.

Re: Geoffrey Ellis Low Whistle Review

I've since been through a long regimen of whistle acquisition disorder control sessions and believe I'm rehabilitated. Philo A classic case study specific to WIDD ( Whistle Induced Delusional Disorder ). :boggle: Philo, never forget you are just one O'Riordan away from total self destruction. :devi...

Re: Geoffrey Ellis Low Whistle Review

All following me should consider themselves quite lucky, as I once HIGHJACKED a touring whistle; that's right I did it and am forever happy about it! of course, after considerable begging and threats (to my own self), the whistle maker gave in and provided me an extraordinary deal. Now, this behavio...

Re: Geoffrey Ellis Low Whistle Review

I just spent my allotted time with the whistles and was also straining to abide by the "24 hour no play rule (which I grudgingly did)." The whistles are visually stunning, especially the D (to my eye). And yes the beaks are Abell-like but not a big deal to adjust to quickly. I'll be brief ...

Re: Geoffrey Ellis Low Whistle Review

Yes, they are beautiful, and a good choice African blackwood. Although treating and curing can matter, I've found through the years that the most innately stable wood seems to be African blackwood, which has held up as though it were metal or delrin in my experience (even without maintenance). I hav...

Re: Pat O'Riordan

Thanks for clearing that up. I've never dealt with anyone better than Pat, who always seemed the least impressed with his wonderful whistles. A long time ago, someone on this Board sold me two O'Riordan Travelers, as he was no longer playing - 3-piece low D and an angelic G; perhaps it was before al...

Re: Slurring, tonguing and the lazy/undecided mind?

OK, for the sake of discussion: do you think his use of double cut rolls and tongued triplets are helpful bringing out the best in the tune? That's an interesting question to me for a number of reasons. First, that tune is one of the few reels I can play "at speed" and keep it together fa...

Thankful AM I

Yes, thankful that I still get excited about the "little" things. Just got my Carey Parks black Walkabout and case - plays wonderfully, is real purty, and the most thoughtful travel whistle ever! 3-pieces done with perfect tolerances, fit into a shirt pocket size little case that has a bel...
