Re: to honk or not to honk--that is the question

I chose the second option, but I do do it quite a lot, usually whenever there's a good rhythmic accent (the two Ds in the fifth measure of the Wise Maid, eg, aren't good places for it IMO).

Re: Hello and a question

I loved my Waltons C, till it flel outta my pocket on the bike... My D is okay, not great, it sounds nice in some songs. Crushing the end with your hand a little will fix the tuning some. I started on a Feadog, right now my D is a Feadog head on a Gen body (dog's body bent, gen's head cracked, so I ...

Re: Sweetheart plastic high D - first impressions.

I'm glad to hear people are liking this whistle; I'm planning on getting the fife sometime next year, and may order the whistle as well, if my budget permits. I e-mailed Ralph Sweet and asked if he has any plan to make in the future a plastic version of his Resonance low D laminated wood whistle: he...

Re: What accessories needed for PlayStation 3 ?

a whistle. you know at some point you'll wish you had one Sony makes those now?! No, they considered it but they know they can't beat the third party dealers :D And I thought: Hmm, if you all have headsets, and headsets are kind of like microphones, could you host a trad session on Home? I mean, in...

Re: English Massacre--another perpetrator

Hmm. I'm not a linguist but... Well it's tricky be cause the possessive -'s is a clitic, not a case, ie it's applied to phrases and it's not a transformation of words. So "Betty and I's" should be perfectly correct. But the clitic applied to "I" transforms it irregularly like so:...

Re: My 12-year-old daughter ...

I'm not much of a gun person (not much chance for it in the city since they closed the shooting range "before my time"), so I can't give much specific advice. But I do like my turkey gun- wasn't too expensive either, and if the fella's 12 too I don't see a need for anything fancier than a ...

Doc and Doug Tipple in an earlier thread had mentioned Boehm flutes. Before I just dismiss that Idea, I should at least try the Boehm flute in a store. Not to play, just to see what they feel like in the hands, etc.... who knows, I might even get reeeeeally lucky and find a Dixon or some other simp...

I believe the working range of a recorder is about an octave and a half, Whew, no! I can get two octaves on my recorders, and I know a lot of the literature calls for about another half-octave above that. The higher notes are definately easier to get on the whistle, tho. with no notes that sound we...
