Re: Buzzing bell note on Generation Bb
will it not be difficult to get the whistle head properly back on once it's been twisted off? I certainly don't want to damage anything in the process of cleaning this thing. No. Not difficult to put back on. Clean the tone tube of any residue and the inside of the head where the tone tube inserts ...

Each of them has a flat blade and the windway has a flat bottom and a curved top. His whistles have a pure sound and very little breathiness. I'm not sure how he achieves that but he does.[/quote] The windway exit is smaller than the blow in end. makes an efficient air steam against the blade.

Re: Made my whistles quieter
Tommy - I tried asking my wife for her opinion on how much quieter they are and she said, "They're both too loud." The best way that I can think of describing the difference is that they've gone from outside voices to inside voices, but not whispers. LOL I hear the same response from my w...

Re: Made my whistles quieter
My family doesn't share my love for the tin whistle, to put it mildly. I moved from the family room to the back yard, but they still complain. I am amazed at how easy it was to make this tweak, and how good the two whistles that I tried it on sound. They're a fair bit quieter than they were before,...

Re: PRESSURE
(Now if only whistles had adjustable ramps, with a little knob you could twist to dial in the exact windway height you want.) Wow, that's a great idea; the adjustable windway. Maybe an adjustable window too. Even a 2-position lever for the windway would in some cases really help solve problems or g...

Re: Wobbly 2-Part Clare
Here's what I do when I make a whistle with a similar design to a Clare. You need access to a vise with either wooden or plastic jaw pads. Squeeze the outer part of the joint in the vise until it is slightly distorted. Then rotate it a few times while it is in the vise. Check the fit and repeat, if...

Mine has the plug just like yours. Which was why in your earlier post regarding cleaning i wondered if it were some kind of wood. Or it could be a resin with a wood tone or a mix of fibers and resin. Who knows... But it looks like you got the real deal to me. Mine did not have a label. But mine wer...

Re: I think I destroyed my Feadog
(using an exacto knife and very fine sandpaper). I also added blu tac again. Now no matter how hard or softly I blow, the whistle only makes a very quiet, high pitched sound - almost like playing with my lip on the labium. So have I ruined the whistle, or can it be repaired? Thanks. Mike It can be ...

Correct. Then comes breath control.MichaelLoos wrote:It only shows (once more) that the material is the least important factor for the sound of a wind instrument - fipple/windway design, ratio length-diameter and size and position of the fingerholes have much more influence on the sound of the instrument.
