L&M
L&M is a brand of leather bag, highest quality. In GHB you can start with an L&M bag, use it every day for 20-years, season it like you should and have no trouble. In UP an L&M bag should last generations.

NOLA
I get to New Orleans several time a year and have never seen, heard or met a UP player. If there is one or more there, I'd love to connect sometime. I can hook you up with some GHB players if you like. Have fun. Go to Coop's Place on Decator and say Hello for me

gold beaters skin
The gold beaters skin is made from cows intestines, or at least one layer of the membranes, and is stretched and dried. It comes in folded sheets and looks like slightly off-white tissue paper. To use it, you simply cut a little strip, dampen one end with your tongue (yup) and apply it as you would ...

regarding teflon tape
The traditional sealing/wrapping in oboe and bassoon reeds has been "gold-beaters skin". Does anyone else use this for UP reeds? It is easy to apply, and seals and adheres naturally, being an organic material.

still need ivory?
I have purchased from these folks before: http://ivoryworksltd.com/
Nice stuff, easy to deal with, everything is legal and documented as necessary. It is a well known fact that real Ivory and Fine silver make a piper play 25% faster and 12.5 % more accurately........heh heh heh

chanter bore equations
Have you seen the book: "The Amateur Wind Instrument Maker" ? It has been a couple of years since I cracked my copy open, but if I remember there was some useful discussion about hole size and placement, versus bores, etc. Hope you can find a copy. Good luck with your project. It could get...

Cross-over pipers
I wonder how many visitors here are cross-over pipers, i.e. first played or also play northumbrians, small-pipes, GHBs, Swedish pipes or some other sort. Further, if we begin and become proficient on one of the other pipes, does that help or hinder our study of UPs? And yet further, can and does the...

Until then, I have a starter set coming from Lark In the Morning. I know, they are Pakistani's...but I have h...
