Definately Veillon's best album. Beo, and others have good tracks on them, but non as consistently good as this one, which I still can't spell.

I used to hate the second track, by the way. But I love it now.

I got a few more hits on Google using the word "sensitisation", but I still can't get my head round the reason for my immune system having the memory to target this particular area of skin just below my lip even when no material has come into contact with it. I have not played a wooden flu...

Anyone else with an allergy to certain woods?

I know this isn't a medical forum, but I thought it the best place to ask. I developed an allergy to blackwood some years ago when I owned a Sam Murray flute. I was only starting out and done some incredibly ridiculous things in trying to continue playing even when the area below my bottom lip was r...

TheSpoonMan wrote: Just curious, where do you crann on drowsy maggie? Don't think I've heard people do that before, sounds like a good idea.
You can do that. Matt Molloy does lovely crans in Drowsy Maggie on his Heathery Breeze album.

Heres how I do a short cran, basically using cuts in this order: XXXXXX (Tonguing and holding this first note longer) XXXXOX XXXOXX Hi Blaydo, the above was a good explanation until you went and complicated it with the rest. The cran you have shown above is used by Brian Finnegan and his crans are ...

Thanks for the replies. I don't use glottal stops at all. In fact, I'm not even sure I want that type of sound. I think Mike McGoldrick uses them sometimes. I basically know what I need to do and that is practise. I started this thread to see if I could get any tips to keep in mind. I will not go fo...

Tonguing too noisy?

Has anyone else had this issue? I have not been practising recently, but was listening to a recording I made of myself a couple of years back. I noticed that when I am tonguing I stop the flow of air with my tongue, then when I let my tongue go again there is a bit of a "tuh" sound. It is ...

Well you know, it never fails, when an artist persues his art for arts sake and to present his vision of that art, there will always be those who wish said artist would stand still and not move on. Hopefully he will not seek and audience and therefore limit his growth. I am quite sure an audience w...

I wish Mike would give the techno, Jazz fusion, hip-hop, big band stuff a rest. Believe it or not the best stuff he ever plays is just him with a guitar player, either on flute or low whistle. Unfortunately out of the multitude of times I have gone to see him life in the last 10 years only 2 or 3 ti...

How they compare with each other or with other wooden flutes?? Well I remember being in a workshop with Mike McGoldrick when I had a Sam Murray flute and he had a keyless Lehart. He played my flute and demonstrated that the Sam Murray flute had a nicer tone than his Lehart, but he just liked his Leh...

I knew it couldn't only be a single guitar... The accompaniement is incredible: not too complex but just perfect for my taste.

I'll try to find some albums/tracks of McGratten.

Thanks

Loa
I think he has 2 albums out if you look on Amazon or somewhere.

Ah, that's another thing. I could probably keep my fingers lower so I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for clearing that GHB up.

I'm with franco, can't stand that dreadful vaudevillian joanna clanking away like a bad night in a 40's East-End pub. Frankie Gavin's concert in Oxford was completely ruined by one of 'em (piano that is, not a pub). That's a good analogy because that's kind of what it sounds like. Anyway thak...

Seamus Tansey without piano backing??

Did Tansey ever record albums with guitar or other backing music as opposed to that old piano type of backing that I just can't stand?? I have 2 tapes of him, "Jigs reels and airs" and "The best of Seamus Tansey", but I've hardly listened to them. I know I like his playing from s...
