The usage of a home gas stove is identical - a regulator opens and closes to allow gas to n burners at any given time. When not used, they are closed.

If it was a practice set sale, then maybe a Heather Clarke tutor should have been thrown in there, too.

You'll need one. Pipemakers usually have loads of leather lying around and often include one if asked. Any leather or vinyl will do - some prefer the rough side down on your pant leg so it won't slide around - others the opposite way. Try a craft store.

So a couple of distinct threads - when and by whom were the 'union pipes' invented (and what does that exactly mean), who played them, when did the Irish latch on to them for playing/making, and what were they called along the way.

A book like that would not circulate and is often not allowed to be photocopied (per local library policy). I saw that mention in An Piobaire and have been meaning to ask Sean about it. Fitzmaurice will definitely be 1805.

It is always worth checking with pipe makers as they may have or know where 'loose gear' is located.

The set was Brad's personal set that, for one reason or another, was made available for sale. It is a real gem!
