Re: Quick, somebody start a fight!
Domestic cats are not known for sweeping up the evidence. And that is because frankly, they can't be arsed. They're likely hunting farther afield. A housecat will bring prey home, because while they still have the hunting instinct, they've learned that food comes from a can. To a housecat, prey ani...

Re: Quick, somebody start a fight!
1. The neighborhood I live in was developed in the 1920s. Most of the local wildlife seems to be long gone. The feral cats, having a source of food provided to them, don't seem to be terribly inclined to go after any bird or rodent that crosses their path. (Or they're good at getting any remains ou...

Also Pacific north wet. Humidity is pretty much a constant hereabouts. Winters here are the opposite of cold and dry, even with central heating. While summers can be drier, it ain't Tuscon. The ocean is never more than a few blocks away. I've never seen a need to humidify any of my instruments, and ...

Bad news for birds and local wildlife. Supporting colonies of a lethal invasive species is pretty irresponsible, ecologically speaking.Dan A. wrote:...and we're also caring for a colony of feral cats!

Aww.
I don't really like cats, but the kitties I dislike least are ginger and white.

Re: Boxwood blight
That's unfortunate news, however you slice it. All the tropical woods are, one by one, showing up on CITES lists. Timbers that were safe a decade ago are no longer safe now, and this WILL affect the resale value of your flute. Box was one of the only safe timbers: it's not being overharvested in cor...

Got me. No idea. Either synths or some heavily processed accoustic instrument would be my best guess.

Of unknown flute-playing fathers
A few years ago I posted here about finally meeting my birth father, some 50 years after the fact. He's a yachtsman who wrote a book and made a film about his solo round-the-world voyage in 82-3. Both are worth seeking out, but the book has just been translated in english (he's a Quebecois francopho...

Re: "Insanely fast"?
You know, Redwing is a nice tune. Been used as the melody for a lot of songs. Doesn't sound all that 'irish' to me, however, and not just because the A part is higher than the B part. Was it an old-time reel first?

Re: Fingering information for a Calmont keyless oboe?
If you've only been doing this a few days, that sounds pretty good. I could totally see the virtue in perfecting a reed lip and doubling on oboe. More so with early music or folk, perhaps, than ITM.

At the very least, everything should end up in an archive, whether digital or not. In Canada, you can (or could) earn significant tax credits for donating historically significant material to an accredited museum or archive. Perhaps it's the same in Ireland.
