Vignoles trick, put tiny drop of woodglue on table, slide leaky sides trough it.

Cheap way....If U have digital caliber with reset option, just add small knob of glue, piece of brass, piece of round magnet etc ( 2-4 mm high, let it dry hard) on the other part of jaws(that part what moves).Put jaws then together ,reset the caliber zero position.When measuring cane slip thickness,...
