Re: Walking stick whistle??

Chuck, I have a Hoover A from a ski pole. Not sure he still makes one so that the whole ski pole will still assemble. Mack is the only one I recall that comes close.

Re: Any other beginners prefer a C whistle to D?

I was actually addressing Judy's argument that some whistles you hear were selected from a box full. So that's a different story. Peter, I can't see anything in my post that remotely relates to this. I've never ever found a box full of whistles, not even Generations, in my part of the world. I do a...

Re: Any other beginners prefer a C whistle to D?

Not exactly a newbie, but C is about my favorite key in whistles. Hans listed some very good reasons, but mainly I just like the key of C. My whistles range from hi G to alto G; flutes fill in the low D needs. Whistle choices, in make & sound, are basically personal ... in spite of all the touti...

Re: Anyone playing a Tommy Dion Wooden Whistle?

I have a canarywood high D that was part of Tommy's first "Whistles of Wood" tour, and a high C in olive wood. The D has more of a rasp (chiff?) than the C. Tommy can customize the whistle for the sound you prefer. With the C, I asked for a smooth, sweet sound with very little rasp (chiff?...

Re: Who's the worst WhOA addict of them all?

PhilO, the JudyK was a very limited production whistle that was never sold but given as gifts. I never kept count, but suspect there are less than 2 dozen in existence. Some were nice, some decent and some probably not so hot ... but the price was right. :) JudyK You were certainly headed in the ri...

Re: Pity me...

Ouch, Kelly! Praying for a quick recovery. You were blessed to escape with only the broken wrist. However, you have my sympathy aka pity for not being able to play the whistle. This would be a good time to take up playing mountain dulcimer. Lays on your lap or a handy table top, fret with the left h...

Re: WTB: Hoover Narrow Bore D

Kevin, I have a Hoover narrow bore D and might be willing to sell it. It is a sweet, quiet, wonderful whistle. However, if all you need is "quiet", there are many ways to mute a whistle.

Welcome to the Chiff! :)

Re: Sweetheart whistle

Hi, petehay -- I have a Killourhy model without a key, bought from a lady who lives very close to the Sweets and purchased it directly from them. If the key bothers you I would be glad to trade whistles. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Re: Fingering Key F whistle

Scottie, FWIW I've played a low F (Alba) without a piper's grip. Also played my niece's Jubilee practice low D and my Dixon low D using a regular hold. My niece uses a modified grip by using her little finger on the bottom hole. My hands are normal size for a 5'6" woman; my reach however is lon...

Re: Questions from a New Member & Absolute Beginner

Hi Katherine! You've already had lots of good advice. I just wanted to say "Welcome to the Chiff!" In the male vs female players, in my family we have 2 females that play whistle. None of the guys are interested. I suspect it isn't really a male vs female question as much as a interest in ...

Re: Best D under $100

By all means, pick a whistle that pleases you, regardless of price. But "best" will depend on your tastes, and how you intend to play it (better than basic for ... what?). That's the problem ... so many good whistles under $100, but it is really personal preferences that picks the winner....
