BBC archives at C# House also cover some of R L O'Mealy recorded in 1943 - be nice if these plus any others were put together on a CD.

NPU have made some enquiries regarding permission to do just this but the problem is a lack of funds

I now have the instrument in the workshop for restoration and can confirm that there is not a lot that is original - just the chanter, bodies and most of keys on the regulators and possibly the main stock. Unfortunately text part of book is mostly reminiscences and anecdotes as the title suggests. It is a while since I looked through it (British Library and Westminster Library have copies) but from memory there is little said about the pipes that are illustrated. Perhaps one day the RSM where the Fase...

Technically the only necessary keys are the high c and d as the scale becomes out of tune on these overblown notes. Except on practice sets I now fully key my chanters on the Taylor (square) style there are four - Fnat; G#;Bb & Cnat. Block mounted chanters have in addition a high d. The practice...

Be very careful about using Scottish Bag seasonings - they are designed for attracting moisture and if using them in a dry climate they will set hard - Garvins book suggested Hardies and have several sets that needed replacement bags because of this. A dressing that attracts moisture is also bad for...

If there are no cracks look through the open end of the blades and see if you can see light shining through the sides. If so try closing the blades by gently squeezing the bridle. Closing the blades will make the reed...

Waiting list has crept up a bit now. I use two styles of chanters - both are based on instruments by the Taylor Brothers and both can be fully keyed as all the mounting blocks are in place. One style is the "normal" square style Taylor with the keys mounted on the back, the other with bloc...
