Hey Andrea,

Thanks for the info, I wasn't even aware of it. I'll most definitely try to be there! They have a website- http://atlanta.celticfestival.org, but I can't access it right now. Keep us posted.

surprising results

I expected the Generation to win hands down. I'm surprised to see the Clarke Original leading the poll. Although I've yet to play a Generation, I've played a few Clarke's and I don't consider them to be that chiffy. Charles : I define chiff to be that reedy, slightly percussive sound that really dis...

chiffiest inexpensive whistle?

For those who need a little more chiff in their life (like me!) but don't have a lot of bread (also like me!).

Mandolin advice

You'll love the mandolin, once you start getting into the tunes. Here's a link to Homespun Tapes mandolin books, most of which come with CDs. I have the Butch Baldassarri "30 Fiddle Tunes for the Mandolin," and it's very good- worth the money for the two CDs alone. I also noticed they have...

Hi Brett!

Button or piano, it doesn't matter as long as it's cheap!

cheap accordion advice?

I can already anticipate some of the negative responses, but does anyone have any experience with the "budget" accordions sold by Lark in the Morning? For example, there's one that goes for around $95. It's very tempting. Are there any accordions in this price range that actually play some...

Luck of the Irish

Last year, while watching Nickelodeon with my son, I caught this movie with Henry Gibson as a whistle playing leprechaun. Although it's basically for kids, there's a lot of Irish dancing, music, and, especially, whistle playing! In once scene, Henry takes out a Clarke and starts to toot away. A girl...

trade Susato Dublin Low D

I'm looking to trade this whistle for another whistle. The whistle plays fine, but I did have to reglue the mouthpiece 'cause I was experimenting with using it on another whistle. I'm open to any offers.

I live an hour south of Huntsville

Greetings to all in North Alabama. I live in Boaz, about an hour south of Huntsville, and I own and operate a little music store there right on the main drag. We don't stock a lot of Irish instruments, but we do have a few bodhrans, whistles, flutes, etc. The store's right on Hwy 431, right across f...

low whistle mouthpiece

As the other posters have mentioned, I don't think the Sweetone mouthpiece would work unless you wanted to make a low whistle that's as long as you are tall. You could buy a Howard Low D mouthpiece at The Whistle Shop, but it'll cost you about as much as buying a used low D with a removable mouthpie...

Chieftans were on "Emeril Live" last night

I caught them by accident, 'cause Emeril was cooking Irish food. Poor old boys, they seem to be dwindling down to nothing as the years go by. Three long-term members were not with them: Derek Bell, their harpist who died a few months ago; Sean Keane, their extaordinary fiddler who was with them up u...

Growing up with Mr. Rogers, I feel like a part of my childhood is gone; Mr. Rogers was before we had 100 channels on cable TV and the Internet. He encouraged children to do something that Disney TV and Nickelodeon don't: to use their imagination . I'm sure he's singing "It's a beautiful day in ...

Oh, to be young again and in Mexico. Oh well, I ain't that old- I just wish I was in your shoes. I was in San Cristóbal two years ago and I loved it. It's really unlike the rest of Mexico, almost like being in another country. I think your biggest problem will be leaving the place. Échate una cervez...
