Re: Sour kraut and KimChee
Here is the first report on my fermented vegetable experiment. The good news is that I am eating the Kim Chee that I made, and it is good. After reading online about all the different vegetable combinations that people are using, I got the feeling that I had a lot of liberty in choosing vegetables. ...

Pasta Grande
I really don't like Italian restaurants because the idea of a dinner being composed of a huge plate of pasta with bread sticks and a salad does not make a satisfactory meal, in my opinion. I like pasta dishes, but I really don't want that much of any one thing, no matter how good. I like variety. Fo...

17. If your wife needed to call a "grabber" for you, would that be a happy occasion?

Re: Semi-beginner Flutes
Did someone say, "touchy feely purse fight"? Edit: Let me say that my comment above has nothing to do with the merits of any of the flutes mentioned. I merely wanted to say that Aanvil's comment in the preceding post was funny. I have never heard the expression "touchy feely purse fig...

Re: Loudspeaker Ohms ? Calling all audio nuts ..
Can you try the speakers to see whether you like them or not? Old speakers often have some deterioration in the foam stabilizing rings around the cones. I had to replace these on my component speakers. it sounds to me like the speakers will match up OK with your amp.

Re: new Midwest music fest/school
Christopher Layer, a native of Lafayette, Indiana, is a great Uilleann piper. I last heard him play a concerto for uilleann pipes and symphony orchestra with the Lafayette Symphony. Christopher's father, Edwin Layer, was a musical friend of mine when I lived in Lafayette. I hope that this musical ad...

Re: MY FLUTE
Jim, when you record in the subway, you can expect a little reverberation. I think the flute sounds good, too, and Martin knows how to play the flute in a jazzy style that I like.jim stone wrote:Sounds good. I wonder if you might record it without the reverb.

Tipple High B Flute
This seems to be the day for showing flutes that we have made or repaired, so I will show mine, as well. Anders Bostrom, a flautist playing on Broadway in NYC, asked me to make another flute for him. His high B bamboo flute (I won't mention any famous names here) was flat, so he wanted one of my pvc...

Re: Who else had nasty storms?
...About a 6 foot diameter tuliptree came down next door, fell right between two houses... That's what I was worried about last night, our neigbour has a dying 150yr+ old tulip poplar that is a huge double tree with one trunk ready bisect our home and one to bisect their home. I tried talking to th...

I hope that I'm not being too fussy, but I would like to see the speakers identified in the trailer. I don't want to have to guess who I'm listening too.

Re: Who else had nasty storms?
We had a bad wind storm that came through town yesterday afternoon, no lightning or thunder, just wind and record breaking temperature (103 degree F). A large limb broke from our Bradford pear tree in the backyard. Luckily it didn't take down our utility lines in the process, but a good part of the ...

Re: Sweet 'Shannon', Forbes, Tipple, and Dixon flute reviews
Ha! You got that right. But have you ever tried to play a whistle outdoors on a windy day? It's even worse, because that won't make a sound at all unless you turn at the right angle to the wind. Anyway, thanks for the review. Now I'm seriously re-thinking my choice of what flute to go for. I was ei...

- Tipple PVC Flutes: Starting at around $105 new + international shipping and Paypal fees, these are the Volkswagen Beetles of the flute world. Affordable, quality flutes. For what it's worth, I bought a new VW Beetle in 1965 ($1800) as a college graduation gift to myself. I loved that car. With th...

Re: Sour kraut and KimChee
I'm wary of assuming that those are see-thru lids that can let sunlight in. From what I see, those are just raised sides, and it looks like some have snow in the recess. My equally uninformed guess is that the question of whether to bury or not to bury rests in the aim of coddling the kimchi by mak...
