Re: Lazarro Flutes?
Julia, old girl, I'm glad that you asked the question. If you search this question, you will find all kind of negative comments about these low-cost Chinese flutes. However, I own four Venus flutes, which look to be a little better quality than the one picture on this thread. I have a piccolo, two c...

Re: DIY flute
It shouldn't be very hard to make the notes sound well if you are using a bore-size that is reasonably compatible. Making the upper second octave notes play in tune is the problem on cylindrical bore flutes. Undercutting the finger holes on the embouchure side of the hole will help. However, to get ...

Tipple Low C Flute in Singapore
My facebook friend sent me this link of James Chan playing my low C flute at a session at Molly Malone's in Singapore.

Re: Jem Hammond's Simple Piccolo
I have one of Jem's piccolos lying on my computer desk. It appears to be rather comfortable between the mouse and the Susato whistle. The only complaint that I have about the piccolo, though, is that it does seem to collect dust rather badly. Jem, I suspect that you will address that issue in your n...

You're Never Too Old
I sold a flute today to an 84 year-old man in Belfast, Northern Ireland who thinks that it would be cool to learn to play the Irish flute. I hope that I have the same enthusiasm to try new things when I am 84. It gives me hope.

Re: OMG! A Casey Burns Shakuhachi!!!!
I have heard of flute teachers, who when I student is not playing well or in tune, will take a saw to a flute costing thousands and literally hack off a section. You learn a lot by taking things apart. This sounds more like a Zen koan than a matter of fact. When a student is not playing well, a goo...

Re: OMG! A Casey Burns Shakuhachi!!!!
When I first saw the photo of Casey's beautiful mopane flute with a roughly disected headjoint, I had the same thought as Casey. Actually, I thought that I must be watching an episode of "Criminal Minds" that my wife is so fond of, as there is a limit to artistic alteration. If you would h...

Re: OMG! A Casey Burns Shakuhachi!!!!
Casey, I like your word "crowdsource". My only comment has to do with the bottom photo, where you can look down the headjoint. I see that the tuning cork is still in place. Let me suggest that the shak would play better without the tuning cork, which is not a revolutionary concept. O...

Re: Uh..... What?
Actually, there are several errors in the descriptive copy in the ebay ad. The flute is said to be both 65 cm. and 65 inches. Now, all of us know that the flute isn't 65 inches long. 65 cm would be the length of a keyed flute in D, which is what it is, no doubt. I don't understand why this would be ...

Re: Ebay Items
I see that the used Casey Burns blackwood flute that was advertised by Grey Larsen brought what I would consider a very good price of $490. I liked the way that the flute was fitted to a regular concert flute case.

Re: I have a GPS
Yes, there are a lot of things that I don't try to explain to my wife, as well, even if she wanted to know, which she usually doesn't. I have to admit that I am map oriented and have never had a GPS device in my hands. Will it tell me how fast I am walking on my daily walks? In geophysics class year...

Re: Tipple Low Bb Flute With Two Keys
Denny, I don't think that I understand your question entirely. Yes, the comfort key does hinge on the side with the nylon screws that screw into the key holder, which is set into a machined slot in the surface of the flute. The screws do not screw into the body of the flute. This type of key was dev...
