Re: pipes in kit form ?
If you've seen photos of Seth Gallagher's workshop you can see many of the parts were made in batches. So it's conceivable a maker like Seth who has apprentices making parts to exacting specifications could package a 'do-it-yourself' Uilleann kit. That would get you 85-90% done. I recall seeing some...

Re: FS: Bruce Childress D half set in Rosewood
I had a rosewood Childress B chanter. Comparing photos when I received it and a year later, the wood darkened nicely. Not only did it look great, it sounded great too!rgouette wrote:that might be the first Rosewood Childress set I've seen

Paragon, have a look at Australian Red Lancewood...
It's great for pipes.
Ian Mackenzie (in Blackheath) has been making pipes in Lancewood for years.

Re: Loudness of Concert pitch pipes in Decibels?
Bill... this information dates back 7 years ago. New analog DB meter purchased from Radio Shack. Price: $30 (certainly not a laboratory quality instrument) I don't remember weightings. I turned it to the setting that didn't 'peg the meter' I expected the readings were in DB per the scale and setting...

Seven Year Wait... for a chanter
Near the end of 2002 I ordered and pre-paid for 4 key narrow bore chanter from Davy Stephenson. At the time, I was told he had a piece of ebony that was bored and seasoned, so it would only take 2 months to complete the deal. The chanter was to be based on Peter Hunter's pattern. As many here know D...

Liam, that's quite a pleasant comeback. I see you haven't changed much over the years. A little moody now, aren't we? Sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective so all in all Tony, your post is a load o cobblers. Why yes... my suggestion was to take the very SAME PIECE of leather and plac...

Re: concerning cases
Hans, The case you refer to was hand made in Australia by one of Ian Mackenzie's suppliers. Ian shipped many half sets with cases like this. It was built to his specification. Although expensive, back then the US dollar exchange was nearly 2 Australian dollars. So, it was less than buying something ...

Re: Davy Stephenson alive?
He is alive.
Davy's last correspondence (reply) to me was January 4th, 2009.
He is without a computer and landlline, replying to e-mail via cellphone.
I'm awaiting a chanter ordered 7+ years ago.

pudinka's comment is correct. When I first started researching uilleann pipes, I found 2 different sets for sale on the uilleannpipes.com website. The same photos were being used for some eBay auctions. I don't believe the pipes actually sold on eBay, but the photos were definitely linked to the web...
