Hello Texasbagpiper Nice säckpipa coming out of the lathe! Looks The lower part of the canter looks a bit short to me, do you get get the low D in tune (looks like a E/A chanter)? On most chanters I've seen there is a tuning-hole on the backside for the D, do you use one of those? From a Swedish bag...

Hello Gabriel The octave key on her flemish pipes (I've only seen it on hers) is a small key above the LH thumb hole, covering a very small hole somewhere near the throat of the chanter. It makes the second octave more stable and makes it possible to continue beyond the normal c (or d with a good re...

A friend of mine plays a flemish pipe (same chanter as french pipes) in G made by Marc v. Daal (also makes uilleann). The flemish pipes are mouthblown and normally only has a range of one and a half octave, but my friend has an octave key which enables two octaves with most semitones available. Anders

One thing that have helped me a lot in terms of stage freight, especially on a new instrument, is busking. It is a great way to get to play in front of a public, but in a situation more relaxed than an actual concert. This helped me a lot when I started with bagpipes after several years of fiddle pl...

I use bellows of the french style with curved wood on the backside, and I find them very comfortable http://cthta4.ta.chalmers.se/HomePages/Anders_S/bell_1.JPG http://cthta4.ta.chalmers.se/HomePages/Anders_S/bell_2.JPG the only disadvantage is that I can accidentely disconnect the hose from the bell...

I have played a flemish bagpipe by Arie(belgium, same type of chanter as on most french pipes). It was a truly wonderful instrument of beatiful workmanship. This instrument was made in mid 1990ies, and what I heard he makes most uilleann after that. But if he has continued to develop his work during...

Are bands like Väsen and Garmarna very popular in Sweden? I havn't heard anything from Garmanrna in many years, don't even know if they stll exist, but Väsen is still going strong, now back to being a trio again, and they are well known within the subculture of swedish trad. I promise you all i yon...

Interesting, thanks for your input, I won't bid too high on it since it has at least three cracks (that the ignorant seller knows of), of which one is in the head joint. I must say that most swedish music is easiest on fiddle, since most of the tradition is on fiddle, even though there was some flau...

Hejsan Henke I might not have been clear, I'm looking for a D flute with a Fnat key, I hven't been missing any other notes on my Tipple. My swedish bagpipes i D have a right hand thumb hole to play Fnat, but I don't think it would be possible to have that on a flute due to hand position. Buying a ne...

Flute Identification

Hello I havn't introduced me here properly, I'm originally a fiddler and swedish bagpiper who started off on a chinese Dice-flute (pitched in A) about a year ago, and continued to a Tipple D at the end of last year. Now I have started to look for a flute with some more possibilities, I am most longi...

I have D-drones for drones for my Swedish bagpipe on which I have holes and boxwood plugs to retune them to E. It works but the sound with E-tuning is not as pleasant as the the sound playing D. This is not solving the problem with tuning down, but I'm just thinking if anyone have produced something...

I have been thinking of this as well, since you dont overblow the regs, why is it even nessesary to have doulble-blade reeds. The swedish bagpipe plays a bit more more than one octave, with a single blade reed and a straight 6mm bore. Not having exprience with NSP, but i think they have straight bor...

I would suspect that the major difference preceived at the players position is due to the different directivities of the sound radiotion, between the confuigurations. This difference is probablymuch harder to notice if you are listening to someone else playing different flutes. The other day I playe...
