Manchester Session this Friday Cancelled

The Landlord has just informed me that he has got 3 rockbands playing upstairs on friday so I'm afraid the session is off.

Sorry about the short notice but needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle.

I'll try again in the New year,

It's great to see people thinking about native timbers, and don't forget your native Elders although I think some are endangered.
Try native (or the European variety that is naturalised) Phragmites australis for Drone reeds; it’s a great material and takes little preparation.

These are available in the UK in "Shared Earth" and some Museum shops.
Usually they are split due to the bamboo being improperly seasoned.

Hi Jetpiper, I bet you had real problems with the GHBs in those conditions. If you’re still playing GHBs try seasoning the bag with wool fat (Anhydrous lanolin); just warm it up till it's liquid and pour into the bag. Basically it completely seals the bag so no moisture escapes through the leather (...

8:00 PM Till Late; the new licences will have kicked-in so the bar shuts at 12:00.

Adrian Schofield will be there on his hybrid NSP in G (UP bass drone),
a hammered-dulcimer or 2, myself playing Guitar, Whistle, Deger E-Pipes through a Marshall 100 stack and Wah-pedal.

Manchester Sesh/Ciff Gathering ?

It's that time of the year again any one interested in a Manchester gathering? I've got a venue (Pub) and if there's enough interest I’ll suggest a date. Last time I did this on a Saturday which clashed with the Jolly Angler session, so this year I'll go for a Friday, so you can have 5 sessions (Thu...

Pakistani UPs and other 'budget sets'... the facts

Not tying to stir anything here, so please don't post links to commercial sites. I had a quick look at the search results for Pakistani UPs and thought it would be a good idea for people with experience of these instruments to make comments on one thread so that the rest of us could learn more. All ...

Looking at the Key work I think it might just give you lower leeding tone or semitone and one note over the octave.

Hi El oscuro, this tune was originally a "Big Pipe"(similar to modern GHB) tune and the lower note was available (as in most European Pipes). In the transition from Pastoral to Uillean pipes the lower note was lost so the only way to get that note is to play it in another key namely A mixo...

Flute is a misnomer for this instrument its a double "Clarinets" in the sense that it uses single reeds. In North Africa It is known as Zumara.
