My observations of cheap whistles has lead me to the conclusion that the color of the plastic mouthpiece makes a difference... at least with Waltons. The green mouthpieces on Waltons Irish Whistles sound very different than the black ones on Waltons Little Black Whistles... even when switching them ...

I have a little MIDI keyboard controller hooked up to my PC. By pecking out a tune on the keyboard while listening to a recording played with software that slows the tempo but keeps the correct pitch, I can figure out a tune fairly quickly. Using software that accepts MIDI input allows for fast musi...

If it wasn't for the price, I'd say get yourself a Water Weasel. They are very loud, and very durable since they are made from PVC water pipe. They are also far superior in sound and playability to Susatos... but about three times the price. For loud and cheap, I'd have to agree with the Susato sugg...

Maybe we could add a 'Classifieds' forum? Sometimes commercial messages are welcome, but if they had their own section, they would be easy to ignore.
I'll second the motion... I couldn't agree with you more.
How about it Dale and Rich?

Leave it to me to be the weird one... I find a B natural to be a necessity, even though I rarely play anything in the key of B. Maybe it's just my taste in music, but I like several songs the key of E. My hands are too small to play a low E, but I haven't yet ran across a song I wanted to play that ...

I suppose this puts an end to all the mystery surrounding the instrument. What a let down too... I was hoping it was a real instrument. Even if it was real, it wouldn't be worth $2000 though! I would pay a reasonable price for a functional reproduction though... I'm a die hard Trekkie and "The ...

Let me update my earlier post: You can find a MIDI version here. Use a program like Cakewalk to view the notation if necessary. This is a pretty accurate version in the key of C, but my recording by The Dubliners was done in the key of E... probabl...

Is there some sort of locking mechanism on a laughing whistle that prevents the sections from rotating or sliding while you play? I'd also really like to know what the diameters of each of the three sections are. I've been considering buying one for quite a while now, and this post has really peaked...

My Silkstone alloy high D has beveled finger holes which makes it very comfortable to play, but it can be a bit tricky to get a good seal sometimes because I have very small fingers. The subject came up in a thread about Dixon whistles, which is a mystery to me because my Dixon has no such beveling ...

I think Walton's whistles are the most consistantly good quality cheap whistles. The Mellow D is especially nice because of the larger finger holes... it makes half-hole fingerings a lot easier. While they are fine without any modification, a little filler under the windway and a few strokes to the ...
