I found this book quite a nice read: The Inner Game of Music. I actually found out about it on this board a few years ago. Recommended! Green begins by discussing what makes up a good performance. He invented t...

I'd also agree there's a good bunch of professional players who play unkeyed flutes. A while ago I heard a flute player whose name has dropped off my head, anyway he played McGlinchey's Splendid Isolation on an unkeyed D flute in its original key of G minor, half-holing B-flats and F-nats all the ti...

I have played this flute a couple of times, and I am much surprised there have been no takers here on C+F so far. It's a grand flute, lovely finish, fantastic keywork and a massive big sound. If you're stuck in a session between a concertina and a Paolo Soprani accordion, this flute is your friend! ...

I believe you own an Aebi Bb aswell ? Is there much difference compared with your Burns ? There is. The holes on the Burns are much closer together resulting in a very comfortable playing position. The downside is you have to lip the notes in tune a bit (like on most flutes). Holes are offset for p...

My Burns Bb flute is for sale. The fingerspacing on it is very much like on a D flute. See my Burns flute along with my Aebi Rudall D:

I wonder if that's the flute Kevin Crawford was toting around this summer? I remember it was a newish maker from Brittany and it was a very handsome flute, though I only had a moment to toot on it -- there was Kevin with this new flute, plus a new-model Grinter, in a roomful of 22 obsessed flute pl...

Here's a tune I learned from an old tape of Breton flute player Michel Bonamy. Never heard it anywhere else, anybody know this tune?

Glad you like it! BTW, this is our latest CD:

We'll be back in March and September next year. I have no clue were we'll be then, but I guess it'll be further south and West Coast too. Hope to see you there.

Across the Pond

This is just a shameless plug to let you all know about the first US tour my little band called Cara will do in August. I've created a Google map with all the spots we're playing at. <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=de&msa=0&msid=104806505253958397847.00043474f9af4...

Here's how I play it (I think). Mick McAuley (accordion player with Solas) is the composer. I first heard this tune on Garry Shannon's album "Lose the Head". X:1 T:Mickey Dan's M:6/8 L:1/8 R:jig C:Mick McAuley K:Emin |: ~E3 BEe | cBc ecg | dfd Adf | ged edB | ~E3 BEe | cBc ecg | dfd Adf| g...
