My Aebi flute works very well: low c/c# (pewter plugs) easy to reach, I can almost get a hatd c. I also use the key for getting a high c for the first octave, for instance when I play descending notes quickly (GEDC for instance). Even like that, the c is in tune. I've got an old flute which is prese...

Correction: Grey suggests cutting e with B1 (page118), for he thinks the best way is to keep covered the lowest covered hole.

You're wrong, Chas, there are several Bretons here. Aaron, who is a fine Breton music player, is right. Breton music played with biniou and bombarde is most of time dance music. So you need first to know whay kind of dance you're playing. Then, as the biniou has a bag, the melody is played continuou...

Stephane Morvan (great French flute maker) pointed out the fact that flat F# for flutes made around 1820-1830 should be played with open Eb key, as a remembrance of former flutes.

For pipers, that's not too difficult to do, because it's an habit that you get from piping (UP, and mainly GHB)

Almond oil is usually sold for taking care of breast for women feeding babies; how could it stink?

A possibility is, it has been oxydated and is now too old.

What type of key is it? Pewter plug or pad? I find those notes are easier when the flute is regularly oiled, and after warming it up. When oiled, I don't need to warm it up before getting a nice C. Blow long D notes, then go to C# then C. It shouldn't take moer air than the D. You can get a hard C w...
