Re: Sweaty Fingers and Slippery Nickel? A Simple Solution
I still deal with a lot of paper at work and I use rubber finger tips to turn pages quickly. Unless you have huge thumbs you should be able to find two of these that fit. I guarantee no slipage with these on your thumbs. You can probably find them at Office Depot or another such store.

Re: Approaching Traditional Music from A Classical Background
Wonderful article! I learned these lessons when I transitioned from classical guitar to flamenco. Luckily I was in a space where I could learn and with mentors who were patient and tolerated my missteps. I very much agree with the need to immerse yourself in the music. I listened to nothing but flam...

Re: Finally joined the 21st Century...
I just got my very first mobile phone yesterday. It's an LG something-or-other running android. The phone was left here by our granddaughter who returned home to Italy two weeks ago. I have never placed a cellphone call and I wrote my first text message this morning. I am finding that these devices ...

Re: What are your solstice plans?
I'll be getting ready for my birthday which is 12:00 noon June 22. Actually, I'll try (unsuccesfully) to sleep in and then spend the morning on the crossword and laundry.

Re: How did you get your start in whistling?
I was a flamenco guitar player, accompanying a semi-pro dance company. I fell one day and broke my left wrist. I mean I really broke it, suffered some nerve damage too. After healing I tried to continue playing but after about two years I had to give it up. I went into music withdrawal and through a...

Columba! It's an Italian sweet bread like panetone but shaped like a dove, sort of.

Re: Odd phone solicitation
After we got our home phone bundled with our internet and cable service we found - to our delight - that the phone rings differently when telemarketers call. I don't know how it does it but I like it. And if we are watching the TV when the phone rings a message appears on the screen with the caller ...

Re: Cataracts
I'll be having this done in the next year or two. I watched a cataract surgery thirty years ago when I was in nursing school and it was much more invasive and traumatic than your video, Dale, because the lenses they used then were rigid and required a larger incision and more sutures. My wife had bo...

Re: Warning and Geek Squad Request
My son was able to come over again today. He did a system restore back to the day before I caught the virus - I thought. It turns out that the malware was there at least one day before I discovered it. So he cleaned out the bad stuff again, completely uninstalled Flash Player and did some other stuf...

Warning and Geek Squad Request
Warning: I tried to open a video of O'Carolan's Draught that I found through Google yesterday and got a virus instead. My tech savvy son was able to remove the virus using MalwareBytes software. Now I have another issue. When I try to view a video on YouTube I get a blank box with the message "...

Re: Fingernails
All flamenco guitarists and most classical guitarists use nails on the right hand. Classical and flamenco guitars use nylon strings which are not as hard on the nails as metal strings. Even with the nylon strings, though, nails can be broken, usually at the worst possible time. Flamenco players keep...
