Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

Yesterday I finally made arrangements to collect this early 1900s unmarked Taylor style set. I used to own an identical set to this one, which was my main set of pipes for about 10 years. Sadly I had to sell it about 5 years ago and I’ve always regretted it, and I finally arranged to acquire another...

Seeking Wooff NB D chanter

Hi all I'm hoping to acquire a Wooff narrow bore D chanter. Please drop me a PM if anyone has one they might consider parting with. I'm looking to put the chanter together with a 19th century D set that lacks a chanter. Probably a bit of a longshot I know, but Chiff has delivered for me on longshots...

Re: CITES, Ivory, and trying to upgrade a half set

I've received CITES certificates on several occassions to travel with historic sets of pipes. It's not nearly as difficult or frightening as internet forums often make out. I've always had good experiences and no real problems. It doesn't really matter the purpose for which you're shipping the pipes...

Re: Pictures of Your Pipe

The MacGregor would have originally only had two regs. When I bought it it had three non-original O’Mealyish regs that had been added in the early 20th century. Hence the (non original) connector for a bass reg on the mainstock (which was easier to leave on than remove during the restoration). The O...

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

Two sets of early 19th century pipes. Both beautifully restored to playing condition by Sam Lawrence On the left, a (possibly) Reid set just back from restoration. 4 drones and 2 regs. The set came with the original double chanter which someone sadly decided to scallop at some point in time, badly a...

Re: Bellows Metal Hinge

Bit of a different design on my 1930s Patsy Brown bellows. Works very well. https://i.ibb.co/LpM9RQT/AD5-D4-B8-F-B7-CC-461-F-816-B-DF94-D1-F6-E81-D.jpg https://i.ibb.co/2kcC04x/892-EB06-B-DB14-475-C-A3-D5-C99692-E96252.jpg https://i.ibb.co/5h0qXty/83-A61505-8901-4-F68-B6-B5-188-E3-D240457.jpg

FS: Early 20th century Taylor-style C sharp regs

For sale: Very unique antique C sharp regulators. I bought these in 2010 as part of a lot with a 19th century set of pipes. Very O’Mealy-esque in design. No idea of the maker, although they are definitely pre-1950 (this was clear from other documents with the lot). Lovely dovetailing and carving of ...

Re: Contrabass regulators

My Taylor set (the Cummings set) has a beautifully made contrabass. Here I play one contrabass note to finish The Bold Trainer O . It’s definitely a handy thing for a bit of a flourish at the end of a tune :P That said, I don’t have it on the set these days as I’ve yet to find a way to play the set ...

Re: How did you find your first set of pipes?

I started learning pipes in 1995 back home in Toronto. Pre-internet and also a time when there wasn't much pipemaking going on in North America. I had a friend who had spent a summer in Dingle a couple of years earlier, and while there became friendly with Cillian O Briain through playing in session...

Re: Bellows Makers

Louis Ó Coileáin also makes great bellows. The set I have is fab. I know others who use them as well.

You can purchase them via the NPU shop or directly from Louis. Great customer service as well.
