Free iPod/iPhone/iPad wind instrument

(Edit: It's not free anymore. I guess there's not much point to this thread anymore. Anyone with the power to do so, feel free to delete it.) I just found out about this, and don't know how long it will be free, so if you're interested you probably should go grab it as soon as possible. It's a virtu...

Re: Hosting sound files

Nice improv Clarinetcat. One of the really cool features of another music related forum that I check regularly is that users are able to embed a mini soundcloud player in their posts. No need to leave the forum or thread to listen. Example: http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18415 Seems...

Re: Hosting sound files

Check out soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/

I've been noticing it popping up lately in various music forums that I follow, and I'm really impressed with it.

Well, I knew it was a long shot, but I'll try one bump.

WTT: Your Burke low D comp. for my Burke low D alum. and...

This may be a long shot, but I'm hoping someone out there might be willing to trade their Burke low D composite for my Burke low D aluminum. Hopefully, there's someone out there who loves their Burke, but would like to have the brighter look and sound of aluminum. But, to sweeten the deal, I'll thro...

Re: Folk Metal and other such stuff

I guess this is more like folk-rock-electronic than folk metal, but here are a couple of my favorite bands: Garmarna http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LExEHAftbOk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufnnr_q1yfE&feature=related Valravn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3NZ-fXeNTw&feature=related http:/...

Re: Key of A PVC Alto Whistle Scale Problems

Thanks for the responses... I guess it was wishful thinking to hope to be able to just drill where the flutomat says, and have my whistle be all tuned up and ready to go. :)

Oh well, I'm sure I'll be able to get it reasonably in tune on my own.

Re: Key of A PVC Alto Whistle Scale Problems

I have question about using the flutomat page ( http://www.cwo.com/~ph_kosel/flutomat.html ) to make a whistle. If I enter the diameter, wall thickness, and hole sizes, the first number I'm given is the distance of the embouchure from the end. On a whistle, should I think of that as the distance fro...

Re: Whistle Advice

People here do seem to be awfully generous (good advice, and otherwise) - I was also given the option to return the Fred Rose when I originally bought it from someone here. I think the finger stretch won't be a problem - despite my name, I'm male, and have a pretty good reach. I do, like you, enjoy ...

Re: Whistle Advice

Thanks everyone for the advice (here & in PMs). I hate to disappoint most of you, but the flute was sold at about the same time that I started this thread. Maybe I will give it another shot in the future though. I am going to try making my own whistle for the fun of it... I suppose I'll try flut...

Whistle Advice

After owning my Fred Rose flute for a couple of years, I've decided to sell it and get a low D whistle instead. I played recorders for many years before taking up the flute, and have come to the conclusion that I'm more of an end-blown flute person. I got fairly comfortable and somewhat competent on...

FS: Fred Rose Flute

I bought this flute a couple of years ago, from a one of the members here. Initially, I was very enthusiastic about taking up the flute, but as time has passed, I find myself almost always gravitating toward my whistles when I want to play some folk music. I love the sound of this flute, but coming ...

I just wanted to thank everyone again for the advice. I've had my Fred Rose flute for a few days now, and I'm loving it. This forum has been a great resource for me all around; lots of great info. In fact, I've found the online Irish/Celtic music community to be very generous and helpful. There are ...

Thanks for all of the great responses! As far as my budget goes, I'm already pushing things. What prompted me to make this move was that the Google ads on my classical guitar site finally paid out $100 (after a couple of years... guess I won't be quitting my day job soon). I'm already tripling that ...
