Certainly. I'd have done it already but I've not got one handy that I haven't already altered.

I originally suggested the ones without serial numbers had been stolen, as a joke, but the more I think about it the more I like it. Or Jem's idea that the sales clerk forgot. Both these ideas seem to me to have more merit than that they were 2nds and left with no serial number on purpose. All specu...

I notice that your plots say 100% of recorded data was used. I normally get between 40 and 60 percent. Is that due to the mic, the computer or what do you think? It's due to the fact that I set the filtering to 0. I also checked it with very tight filtering to make sure the median values were close...

Or maybe some didn't get a serial number and recorded in the sales ledger not because they were seconds, but because they were stolen by workers. And maybe they stole particularly good ones.

It really doesn't matter how complicated a formula you use you still only get a starting point to begin experimenting with. If you cover more or less of the blow hole you'll alter the optimal position of the cork a bit. And depending on the flute, and the type of music you play you may want to alter...

Tuning, Tone, Old Flutes etc.

A couple of months ago on this thread http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=61970 I asked for some advice on how to play an antique flute in tune. There was some good advice on how to adjust individual notes up and down, but nothing on what I could change that would affect the tuning as a whole....

we discussed doing proper rolls using the Cnatural key on a keyed flute (unless one only cuts to the open C# ooo ooo by cutting L1 - which wouldn't be terribly effective) As you've written. c c# c B c but perhaps not as effective as one of the (many) cross-fingered alternatives you gave which as I ...

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh taught us this tune at a workshop a few months back and we discussed doing proper rolls using the Cnatural key on a keyed flute, plus alternatives as suggested by Jem on a flute without the Cnatural key. But the easiest alternative she showed us if you want to avoid the roll b...

What about all the Scottish Pipe music? It'll be written running from A to a (sometimes with a low G) but you could just transpose it down to go from D to d (and do something with the low Cs)

Re: Sifting through advice on embochure

I think I'm at the point where i've tried too many things. Any advice? It may be that you haven't tried too many things but just need to give them more time. After playing flute for over 30 years I decided towards the end of last year to do something about improving my embouchure (not that it was t...

It was probably made about the same times as your Monzani. My Monzani has keys hallmarked for 1832 and is stamped "Hill late Monzani". Monzani retired in 1829 but based on its serial number I think my flute was made before he retired but not finished (by Hill) for several years . Anyway t...

I'm guessing that the only connection is that some part of it is using one of the several patents held by Monzani. I've got a Blackman flute and a Monzani but can't see what what part ....
