Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

"You get what you pay for." I took you seriously until you wrote that. This is a cheesey used car salesman type quote that is sometimes used against the uneducated, so that more profit can be made. Not at all. Most times the profit is less for the maker when you pay for quality - truly. J...

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

but you sometimes get a bit OTT in your argumentation Touche! Is it not? I do like you Peter, but let's be both honest, you can be just as OTT in your argumentation as anyone i've ever had the opportunity to debate with (i don't like the word argue). Hehe. Seriously now for a moment. I know the Sin...

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

Anyway, semantics maybe but the difference in finish is not the difference between artisan made and mass produced. It's a difference in finish and possibly the difference between one maker using computerised gear for the cutting and turning resulting in smaller tolerances. That's really what I am g...

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

As i've tried to say, Peter. I'm not dissing the Killarny, it's a great whistle, but you get what you pay for. And the Sindt is the better piece of engineering. I do also wonder as the tools begin to wear how the Killarny will vary whereas the Sindt will not because John is not a mass production eng...

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

When i did my training, the Killarny would have been thrown in the scrap bin - SERIOUSLY!

I am not joking. It would have just sailed across my teacher's desk into the big barrel that was scrap metal.

The Sindt would have got me the rest of the week off.

It's that simple!

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

Rivet.... Note, rivet is not finished flush. My trade is aeronautical engineering and this is classed as "gash/slack" work, please compare to the Sindt which is flush (admittedly it's not an aircraft and you're not paying as much as a Sindt, but my point is that it isn't finished anything ...

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

The tube is identical to a Feadóg one so it responds like one to various fingerings. Looks more like a mass manufactured Sindt as opposed to a purely hand made one. I don't quite understand that one. First of all mine doesn't have rough edges and is finished virtually identical to the Sindt. Second...

That's not a problem with feadog tube. 0xx000 is good.

Re: Interesting (?) - Killarney Whistles/Órlaith McAuliffe demo

I just got mine today. As a total Sindt addict (it's pretty much all i ever play) these are my thoughts... First impression out of the packet.... definitely a total copy of a Sindt, in every way except it's rather unfinished on the edges compared to a Sindt, and the rivet is proud instead of flush. ...
