Sorry folks, I haven't been checking my emails lately so I am a bit behind on this post.
I own the copy that I have posted photo links to.
A friend gave it to me many years ago.
When you say 'art piece' what would you intend doing with it?

panceltpiper wrote; 'I just tried that, and found out that I'm not contracting the back of my throat at all; in fact the moment I started whistling the back of my throat opened up.' You obviously whistle a lot differently to me then panceltpiper. :) I wish I could upload a video of me whistling (I ...

Re: Hitting all the notes in Gravel Walks and Drowsy Maggie
magickdancer , panceltpiper describes (correctly) 'breath pushes' as a form of breath control used by traditional flute players. The term I am used to is 'pulsing' which uses the glottis to restrict, not stop as in a full glottal stop, the flow of air. Essentially the same thing really, just descri...

Re: Jammin w/ Willie
Well you did at least have some familiarity with the melody line and you were able to tweak what you already had in mind (arrangement wise), and it worked to a tee. Well done.

Re: Jammin w/ Willie
Very nice. If it wasn't for the whistle it would not be the type of song that would hold my attention for very long, so it just goes to show the different feel that can be attained by just adding whistle.
Very nice playing, did you have a few run throughs, or did you play off the cuff?

Mr.Gumby wrote; The only way to find out is to listen to traditional musicians, good ones. Not abominable tripe from youtube. Yes I agree Gumby, the reason I posted the examples was to show how easy it is to access abominable tripe on youtube. I would suspect that a lot of folk who are not up to sp...

DrPhill , I think Jim Stone just about summed it up in his explanation of ‘games’, but if you really want to hear some examples of one particular tune played by many different people, then I’ll give you a few examples. The tune ‘Drowsy Maggie’ featured in the below deck party in the movie ‘Titanic’...

Re: Most Demeaning Flute Video of all time
...now that I think about it, there was a program on the (UK) telly back in the early 80's (?) where the bands playing on 'top of the pops' lipsynced and instrument-synced to their chart hit, meanwhile (unknowing to them) they were live and being recorded. They couldn't hear themselves as that was n...

.....I was almost tempted with the flute (remember it?)...but measuring 65' long I don't think I would have the reach to play the thing.

When ‘Jack’ say’s to Rose, ‘So, you wanna go to a real party?’ The first tune is ‘The Blarney Pilgrim’ followed by ‘The 40 pound float’ also known as ‘John Ryan’s Polka’. I remember ‘The Kesh jig’ is where the young Rose stands on point and they all end up dancing around to the reel ‘Drowsy Maggie’....

Waltons 'Guinness' model. Identical to the 'Little Black' except it has the Guinness logo and a cream top.
Oh, it also has an aluminium tube. A friend bought me one years ago, it just sits in my whistle pouch unplayed, I prefer my old Gen' D.

Re: Dylan songs for the tin whistle?
I'm not a fan of yer man Bob, but we used to do one of his songs in our band with fiddle, flute, guitar, whistle and bodhran.
The song was 'Wallflower' and we would splice it with 'Southwind' in the main part and as the intro, then we'd use 'Planxty Irwin' as a bridge and outro.
