Re: Experience with Jonathan Swayne whistle ??

I've only tried one high D Swayne whistle, and it was the only whistle that I've played that I would describe as "reedy." Very unique sound. Plenty of back pressure / resistance to blowing, which I like. Very attractive whistle (boxwood) with nice curves. :)

Ooo...that's an interesting looking whistle. Now you're activating my WhOAD. :)

Is that a standard item Kenny makes? I don't see them on his Web site. How does it play?

Re: Key of F

I have a recent (maybe 5 years old) high F brass Generation that's one of the better stock Generation whistles I have. For the price, it's worth giving it a try. Chris Abell makes a high F whistle if you want something higher end. https://www.abellflute.com/whistles Edited to add: Humphrey whistles ...

WTB: Susato Bb

If anyone has a Susato Bb whistle in good condition they'd be willing to sell for less than current retail, let me know.

I'm mainly thinking of the Kildare version. If you had the thumb rest with it, that would be a bonus!

PM or email (bretterb AT gmail DOT com).

Thanks.

Thumb rest ideas?

Playing high D whistle, I've never felt the need for a thumb rest or additional way to support the whistle, However, lately I've mostly been playing my big bore Bb from Roy McManus and it can be tricky to keep a good hold on it. Does anyone have suggestions for adding a thumb rest for support? I won...

You're welcome! I thought so too. Here's another version where she's playing it on a Bb whistle:

Re: Best Sources for Learning New Tunes

Here's one more for you: Shannon Heaton ( https://shannonheatonmusic.com/instruction/ ) has free "Tune of the Month" videos on YouTube that are great for learning new tunes. She plays flute but that works fine with whistle. She also has a package called "First 50 E-BOOK & mp3"...

Re: Skype Lessons

Hi Pat. I recently did a Skype lesson with Sean Cunningham (http://whistletutor.com/). Skype worked pretty well and didn't have any issues with delay, but that really depends on the quality of both your Internet connection and the instructor's connection. If you were trying to do a Skype lesson from...
