Re: Pointing in the right direction

I just want to be sure that I don't make mistakes in my first months, that I have to spend years to correct afterwards. Well, you will make mistakes and you will spend years correcting. (The glass is half empty.) But you will enjoy the challenge and every opportunity to practice is an opportunity t...

Re: A weird issue, saddens me

Perfectly normal and will may happen again and again. It's a matter of consistency, which is difficult to achieve in fluting.

Re: Oz Vambrace vs. Busman

No 2 whistles are exactly alike, but you WILL find that they all fall within a range - this probably describes a statistical bell-curve around the maker's intent. A hand-producer will not release the bottom end of the bell curve. In theory, neither will the mass producer, provided that there is som...

Lovely. Is the tuning barrel new wood? The keys seem a tad yellowish, real silver? Nice work.

Re: Time for you whistle makers to man up.

Didn't watch the clip yet but I bet it's much easier to play a comfortably sized whistle into a computer mic and re-sample down two octaves (aka voice changer).

Keep almond oil and any other drying oil away from the tuning slide and corked tenons.

Re: wooden flute care question

A flute with a metal sleeve, in the barrel and/or in the head joint, likely won't crack at sub-freezing temperatures, and that's because metal "shrinks" at a faster rate than wood. However, the opposite is also true, that metal "expands" faster than wood, which is why it's ever ...

Re: Righty for a Lefty?

Backwards? Yes. 6-key? Eb, Cnat, G#, Long F, Short F. Can't see a Bb. It's possible to play the short F, Eb, and Cnat backwards. Murray? Maybe. Asymmetric blow hole? Yes, based on a sample of two Murrays. Perhaps he got a lefty head? Still, it's possible to get a nice sound playing it backwards.

Real scientific conclusions? Yes.

Consensus between flute players and scientists or just amongst flute players themselves? No.
