Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Very nearly. I know it's been a long time in the works, but after the first batch of prototype whistles I needed to figure out how to make them in a production mode, where I could be confident of the result. It turns out the tricky bit has been the mouthpiece in black. I think I've got it sorted out...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Hello all, Sorry for the lack of updates. I had a special order whistle to get out and with some mistakes by my engraver and two (count 'em TWO) separate flats trying to get the completed whistle to the post office, then some number of hours in a Firestone shop getting a new tire, and another half-d...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Just a quick note to mention that I've been off on other projects for a few days, gotta service the paying customers before doing R&D you know. But I also have been giving one of the prototypes some air time in the sessions (we have three weeklies now!) to see how I like it when used "in an...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Owll Korrect of course. Since I cut the tone ring from the mouthpiece, it works out to expand the mouthpiece/ring together, then part the ring off and finish the business end of the mouthpiece before installing it on the whistle. That said, my method is to adopt the most straightforward way and then...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Jem, you have obviously "been there done that." I have turned the ID out on a large washer, and the mandrel fits inside a section 3/4" CPVC which makes a sliding handle to keep the washer square to the mandrel while I eject the mouthpiece. I slowly reduced the OD of the mandrel so be ...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Thanks for your support guys. Reflecting on that BMW whistle, I realize it is the negative of the cream Every with the (loosely) black logo and key.

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Mouthpiece Methods For a couple days I've been trying different approaches to making the mouthpiece for the black Every Whistle. It's not a case of how to make one, but rather how to make them in production mode. The more uniform the better, and the quicker the better. I had made one whistle by sim...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

I'm somewhat stymied at the moment. Not that I can't make a whistle, but that I can't find material the color and size of material I would like to use. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MmYBJDUIDBE/To0SJ_Ru85I/AAAAAAAAFyo/A9t3cJwe7eM/s400/Dubh+color+schemes.jpg All I really have that I can put to use direct...

Re: Seisiún vocabulary

Wow, what a complete list. It's HUGE! Thanks Brus. Now I have to study my rules of pronunciation, or should I say phonetics. But it is a great thing to have.

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Yesterday on the way home from the session I picked up the dubh whistles I dropped at the engravers the week before. Here's the batch on the workbench - a dozen D whistles, and a dozen each of C and Eb bodies with which to make sets as needed. My approach is to do as little work as possible before e...

Re: Thumbhole Question to Makers & Tweakers

Thumbhole? We don' need no steenkin' thumbhole! The one or two I've provided for customers were done by eyeball, and came out fine. Drill it undersize, then open it up bit by bit until you get that Cnat you so desire. Or, you could just half hole it :D Hey Paul, how do you drill a half hole? I keep...

Re: CP: Parks high whistles in black on the way

Gotcha down Chuck, thanks! That might be the best option "Every Dubh" and "Walkabout Dubh." Sigh, so many ways to go. Perhaps by the time the first batch is done the right choice will be obvious. Like naming a puppy. We could never pick a name until living with the puppy for a wh...
