Just for the record, I never did any work for or with Alain Froment. I bought my lathe from him and he gave me some advice. However, from the start I had my own workshop and made my own reamers and other tools. No Froment pipes have ever had any input from me and vice versa. In fact he was unwilling...

I don't take the pith out until the reed is made. Elder is not as strong as cane and leaving the pith in gives a bit of extra structural strength when cutting the tongue.
