A memory for an old friend
Dedicated to one of my Chiffy friends that I have known for so many years. Sharing a memory--it might seem an odd time, but you don't always get to pick your times when these kinds of memories hit. Just surfing around, I came across a photo of this crazy huge art set--looks like maybe 500 pieces or ...

Reflections on sound--not just about music
Some of my most vivid memories are sounds. Perhaps my brain fools me, but it seems to me that I often recall sound more accurately than visuals--though of course there are notable exceptions. <smile> When I was a child, the world was full of sounds. Often the first sound I'd hear was the hiss-hisss-...

Re: Why oh why do I want a translucent Yamaha recorder?
The Aulos is a wonderful recorder--I have soprano and alto.
That said, if you want an instrument just because it's "neat," I don't see a downside. Grab it!

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
Now that I've had more time to play with it, I will say that of the three plastic "historic copy" recorders that I have, the Yamaha is the one I would perform in public with, even though they are all very nice instruments. The reason is simply that the Yamaha can get "wet" and co...

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
As coincidence would have it, a Yamaha 312b III that I ordered a bit ago arrived today. It's a very nice recorder!--plays a great deal like my old pallisander Adege alto (after Terton) that I used to play in college with the NLU Monroe Consort. It is a bit more of a "polite" recorder than ...

It might be worth contacting Yamaha--I suspect they might replace the recorder.

Re: Fingering Charts - downloads & links
Here is Folker and Powell's fingering chart for Baroque flute after Grenser:

Forgive me if this was already included...didn't see it if so.
Including for odd folks like myself that mess around with playing traverso from time to time.

Re: Cheap wood recorder opinion ?
I have both the Aulos alto after Haka and the Zen-On alto after Bressan. I found both of these instruments to be capable recorders. Of the two, the Zen-On has the tighter voicing but also has a bit of an "edgy" sound that, while pretty accurate historically, some players may not care for. ...

Hang on to that vinyl collection--not only did some audiophiles never let them go, they appear to be making a bit of a come-back.
I am seeing turntable in regular advertising again. In 2015--who'da thunk it?

Re: USA, Arkansas, Little Rock
Update:
The sessions listed above no longer exist.
Little Rock now has a weekly Sunday session at 2:30 pm at Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 N Rodney Parham Rd.
In addition, there are usually a couple of house sessions per month--please PM if you are interested in attending one of those.
