Whistle/piccolo combination

This is a two part question. Due to severe neuropathy in the first three fingers of my right hand, I am facing serious difficulty playing a whistle. Because I have little touch sensation, getting a clean seal on the D-E-F# holes, resulting in poor or even incorrect notes. This is with both fingertip...

Concertina beginner advice

I am a former whistle player sidelined by arthritis and neuropathy of my right hand, now play mountain dulcimer and bowed psaltery. Both are feasible but not ideal for the Irtrad music I like to play. I have been thinking recently of trying to pick up the concertina to cover this "gap". I ...

Searching for tune

Does anybody recall a tune written to honor the Shuttle Clallenger disaster, the name was Dallas Skies?

Have not thought if this in several years, as I recall it was a beautiful, haunting tune that Id like to reconnect with.

Thanks

Re: 3D Whistle Printing?

I am NOT a whistlemaker, and at least in my own opinion no better than an average player. Still, I guess I know a little about musical theory and history. People have been trying for centuries to copy Stradivarius instruments, and to date no one has fully succeeded, at least to my knowledge, Any dev...

Re: Best sheet music store?

As a rule, I strongly oppose complete quotes as time and space wasters. I'm making an exception for the following because I think its the finest explanation of this process that I've ever seen, one that many of us might have learned by time and trial, but couldn't have enunciated anywhere near as cl...

Re: Can flute-type keys be added to a standard high D whistle

Interesting. Mine is similar but doesn't match the Mathieu whistles I've seen pictured or described. No maker name, for example but the upper section is marked with two large embossed "diamonds" made up of individual straight lines and raised dots at the points. Between the two are the let...

Re: Can flute-type keys be added to a standard high D whistle

I imagine the simple solution used on this 19th century whistle would achieve something similar: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii19/Kilfarboy/Oldwhistle_zpsb202e8b3.jpg Mr.Gumby Do you by any chance have a full picture of that whistle? The portion shown looks very much like the French whistle ...

Re: Tablets for storing music

Hi Chuck Why not use the camera on your tablet. No need to invest in a scanner. David I will. What I was referring to area group of Android apps that use the tablet'camera but auto-correct the results to compensate for angle discrepancies that resort from hand-held shooting and that distort the ima...

Re: Can flute-type keys be added to a standard high D whistle

Resurrecting an old thread to tell everyone of my gratitude to Mack Hoover, a master whistle maker and very classy guy who seems to have solved, or at least significantly eased my problem. I'll post a picture later if anyone's interested, but what he's done is take one of his tunable PVC whistles, a...

Re: Tablets for storing music

To continue this topic, I received a new Galaxy Tab 4 10.1" tablet for Christmas and have been testing Mobile Sheets, which I like. My next task is building up my files. As one part of this, I have a fairly large collection of printed sheet music, some of which I'd like to get into machine form...

Thank you for sharing this. Music is universal and its good to begin my new year by learning of yet another lovely and lively style of which I was formerly ignorant.

Happy new year

Re: Survey: Razors

Some cultures that prefer the smooth-as-a-baby's-butt approach have foregone shaving in favor of plucking the individual hairs. Did any of you ever see the American Idol video of the guy who wanted to do his schtick in his version of drag but on the scale of hairiness came a lot closer to gorilla. W...

Tablets for storing music

Has anyone here done any experimenting with using tablet PCs for string and transporting music? If so, I'd appreciate your insights and experiences. I play whistle, mostly by ear, and mountain dulcimer in a beginner/intermediate session group with a heavy emphasis on music proselytizing, e.g. findin...

Re: Can flute-type keys be added to a standard high D whistle

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner - a death in the family takes priority. I have talked to a local woodwind repair tech who says the work is beyond his ability. A whistle maker friend is sending me an instrument to try that looks promising using a slight hole modification and chimney on only those ...
