Re: What slow airs should we know?

There's always Blind Mary. One of my true hexes - I can never play it slow enough.

Re: New (or not) Maker -- "Mack"?

Thanks

It took a while but I started to really miss C&F, too. My own fault, really - I got up in that crazy post count chase and both the quality and enjoyment collapsed.

Now that I'm back, hopefully I've learned a lesson or two.

Re: New (or not) Maker -- "Mack"?

"Mack, a fine gentleman whistle maker of the first order. " Truly! It is impossible to imagine that he could possibly have an enemy - and if he does, its through no deed or fault of his own. I'm one of those fortunate enough to own one like you bought and it has pulled me through a couple ...

Re: Who Owns Wood Whistles?

Many musicians (me included) believed that Ashokan was a period piece from the 1860's and was in the public domain but it's not. All hail Jay Unger. I live near Springfield, Illinois. With 2000 being Abraham Lincoln's Bicentennial and Springfield being the site of his presidential library and museu...

Re: getting back to it

Hi! I haven't posted here in a while--in fact, I haven't played in a while.... so I made the decision to set the whistle aside and come back to it after graduation... So, in short, how does one (re)begin after having barely played for seven or eight months? Been there, done that (not the sax part -...

I'll look up Dave's site, but only for curiosity's sake. You hit it in one. Thanks.

Need help ID'ing another whistle

I'm a little worried about offending someone with this post and if I do, I apologize in advance. What most people know is that I was off the board for a couple of years. What isn't known is that for some of that time I really didn't want any part of a whistle other than one beat-up Sweetone. During ...

Re: Who Owns Wood Whistles?

the song "Ashokan Farewell" was meant to be played on a C whistle made of wood. i don't care what anybody says. that song on an O'Brien is a little piece of heaven. i play it over and over, and it is just as wonderful every time. jim I had a chance to meet Jay Ungar who wrote Ashokan Fare...

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Whistle?

er uh, so that's it? I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd still like to know about it. With permission, I pass along the following extremely interesting information: ********************************************************* The whistle is a fairly run of the mill late 19th century whistle. France...

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Whistle?

I have no objection to making and sharing an abstract of the relevant info - but under the circumstances I won't do so unless Tommy okays it. I really hate it when people share private information without permission.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Whistle?

BUMP Just trying again in hopes it might get an answer. Chuck, Peter Laban sent me an email with much info on this whistle. I have forwarded the email to you. However the email was returned to me saying user account unavailable. Yeah, C&F probably still has my old e-addy. I'll fix it, but in th...

Re: Can Anyone Identify This Whistle?

I tried googling around with the aid of an online French-English dictionary and the remnants of my high school French, but didn't find anything useful. But is there a specific French word for tin whistle? I tried "sifflet" and "flageolet", neither of which is the word I seem to ...

BUMP

Just trying again in hopes it might get an answer. Extensive net searches have revealed nothing.

I'm thinking that the needed clue migt be one of the two markings:
