Re: vibrating bags

But, while we have talked about the chanter and the wave lengths moving from the chanter; the drones are also attached to the bag. With the drones, except for SSP, the note sounded is lower than that of the chanter. Thus, longer waves. Any part of an object that is vibrating will transfer that vibra...

Re: input please? a sad experience...

I too started with the Dixon Trad. and the Generations. Love the Trad, hated the Generations (got all six). Then moved up in price to O'Brien set. Liked them, particually the Bb, but found myself playing the Trad just as much if not more. Then, finally, saved for a Burke. While it is a good looking ...

I don't think you need to spend for the tunable one on the Dixon Trad. The head is moveable and take care of tuning, which you only need is playing directly with another whistle or other similar instruments. Mine is not out of tune, but other whislte are :D .

Re: OK everyone... I need to buy a new whistle. Suggestions?

I really like my Dixon Trad and recomend it over my Generation. The cost is around $25.00. I play the Dixon more than any of the other whistle that I have including several "higher" dollar whistles. What about getting a Hoover head and putting that on the Oak body? I don't know if they fit...

I use cork grease from my saxophone case. Avalaible at any music store. But sometimes I don't have both at the same place and need a touch up on the whistles. I then use a very small amount of a natural chap stick. Burt's Bees or something without chemicals. Very small amount will work. No problems ...

I have purchased a Burke BDSBT and a set of O'Brien's since the time I purchased a Dixon Trad D. I keep going back time and time again to the Dixon. I still play the others a lot, but the Dixon call to me.

Different interpretations of a musical piece, no matter the composer reminds me of story from a few years ago. I was attending a concert of a major symphony who was featuring Gustav Holst's, "The Planets". The renown conductor related that as he was approaching work one day about midway th...

I had downloaded the Chieftains playing this and just loved the melody with just the solo whistle. No wonder I could not get it started as by watching and hearing it, I knew it ended on G, making it in the key of G. But, as you say, it starts somewhat in am. Thats were it gets its haunting sound fro...

Women of Ireland

I would like to learn this tune. Its from the movie, Barry Lyndon and was recorded by The Chieftains. It's Gaelic name is Mna Na h'Eireann. I have been listening to it, but playing and learning by ear is very slow for me. Does anybody know where this might be published so I may purchase a copy. Thanks

Welcome to the board oregonden. The Meg in D was my first whistle. It cost $3.00 and $6.00 to ship. I still play it and keep it in my patrol car duty bag so I can play all night on slow work nights.

My first thoughts when watching the show was the whistle was in the key of D or smaller. I know from seeing some musical scores that the whistle part is for a Bb whistle. It sounded like a Bb whistle, but looked smaller. sheesshhh. :sniffle:

It did sound amazing. Again, how an inexpensive instrument mixed in with all of the "real" instruments and the sound was super. Good job!

One of the best pieces of advice from this board, "Get the generation set, 6 whistles for $40.00 (50.00 for nickle) and you can experiment from there without to much problem. Covers all the above. Then if you want a different sound, you can search for maker, not key without spending a lot on a ...
