Re: rubber bags on gaita gallega??? Luife, is it so?

Hello, I have very nice gaita galega by Antón Corral and J. Peréz of Lugo, Galicia. We believe that it was made during Corral's apprenticeship with Peréz some time around the 1950s. It originally had a rubber bag made from a black intertube, which was wonderfully air-tight and wood-destroying. As yo...

Thanks, Rich! That must have been a nightmare transition to phpBB3. I appreciate your work on the board and doing the hosting.

Casey's largely right about artists needing to spend full-time on their work. There are some part-timers (like Rob Forbes, I'd say) who really do a good job, but they're probably much more limited in the range of things they can tackle. Being an artist doesn't involve standing at the register checki...

.... Frankly I find discussing what us flute makers should earn here slightly offensive, as if we are of the same ilk as AIG Executives off on their next taxpayer-dailout-funded junket. All of us have bootstrapped our own businesses up from nothing and what we make is a sign of success and pride in...

Piracy can be good or bad for a musician, depending on what their source of income is. A musician friend of mine told me that he LIKES piracy because that's how people find out about his band. They often give away their albums, but it's cheaper for them to let people download pirated versions. Once ...

I got my Rob Forbes today. I think I ordered back in June, so that'd be something like 5 months. It was well-worth the wait. I'm impressed by the looks, playability, and sound. Visually it appears to be carefully built, with no obvious "oops!" moments visible. It's probably louder than my ...

I see flute making (of Irish flutes) as a largely a labor of love. .... So I think the answer to the question 'How much should a flutemaker earn?' is the same as the answer to the same question for artists. .... I was thinking about the comparison with artists, much the same as Jim. When I worked a...

What you say about the Burns Bb makes sense. Casey makes some (all?) of his flutes to be "ergonomic." The one I have is incredibly easy to finger compared to others.

Thanks for the additional update, MTGuru. If it is a server problem, isn't that something the host should fix? If they can't, there's often a 30-day guarantee or something similar. At least I've seen that for the hosting accounts I've had. I'd be seriously thinking of moving to a new host. Let me kn...

Hmmm. Looks like I've encountered the double post problem. The one below will be better, I promise.
