Re: catherine mcevoy
West Clare broadband is not really up to HD video streaming And I thought Miltown was Ireland's first 'etown' :) At least, this was announced with great fanfare a number of years ago. Mind you, I could never quite reconcile this with the various little Massey Ferguson tractors parked haphazardly on...

Re: Sam Murray and Flute Deliveries?
I think 'monkeymonk' summed up the situation well above, perhaps leaving aside point 6..
Not that the issue of not returning work is not serious etc., but may hopefully only be isolated incidences.
Points 1-5 are on the button though, the way I read it.

Re: Sam Murray and Flute Deliveries?
Is this the reason no one had followed up with legalities? Because folks that deal with him in person don't encounter the same degree of problems that offshore orders do? I don't know as I don't live in Galway or the west. I'd guess that threads like this and there have been others, don't do the Mu...

Re: Sam Murray and Flute Deliveries?
If you're offended by the word 'hawking', I'm happy to apologise. Call it 'aggressive selling' if you wish or 'pushing product'. I prefer the old words and as I have ancestors who were street hawkers, I have no problem with it's connotations. Re Sam, I have no major problem, I have one of his 3 key ...

Re: Sam Murray and Flute Deliveries?
Yes, I have followed it and I still think in poor taste - clash of culture I guess. Just seems inappropriate given these peoples difficulties, to be trying to cash in on their problems?

Re: Sam Murray and Flute Deliveries?
I find this hawking of an instrument in rather bad taste given the context of this thread...Julia Delaney wrote:Should anybody still be reading this woeful thread, I am selling a beautiful Sam Murray 6-key boxwood flute ....

Re: why do you play the flute you play?
Hmm!, I'll 'fess up a bit - I haven't played as much flute as I should in the past 3-4 years. It's a physical instrument and I've tended to be lazy at times and play more concertina etc. But I keep returning to the flute as you can't beat the power and simplicity of it, it's just so much more direct...

Whistle & concertina - latter with view to future (old age!!) when flute may not be so amenable.

Re: 10 Years, ladies and gentlemen?
I wonder, if there're coinsidences when a person who doesn't pick up his flute by the time it's ready, be it because he's short of money or just quit playing the flute or any other reason. What happens to that flute then? This means there's a ready new flute that can be bought and received instantl...

Re: 10 Years, ladies and gentlemen?
Well, it's only a £50 non refundable deposit - I'd guess a good few people might throw that at it and even if they give up or have an accident or whatever - they won't have lost much and could even still purchase and sell on at an unethical profit etc. You should look at concertinas - some makers li...

Re: flute tweaking, is it a cr*p flute or not issue?
I think I'd first hand the flute to someone you consider a good player, who plays like you want to sound. Then see what they get on it - more than likely, they'll sound grand in which case you'll need to conclude that it's yourself that needs to adjust. There are lots of little variables and I think...

Re: N00b question - tone gone. Help!
Maybe relax a little and don't force it?
I tend to notice a little circle - you think, that's a nice tone, let's push it a bit more, great .. then 'that's s**t'!
So you back off, come back to it etc.

Re: Lost/Stolen Olwell flute
You're making an assumption that the person who called about Patrick's flute accepted an award. It could be they just did the right thing without wanting a monetary reward. True ... but reading between the lines... it's like music - it's the space between the notes, what isn't played!! Anyway glad ...

Re: Lost/Stolen Olwell flute
"reward for return, no questions asked". Someone called up and said the flute had been found near where I was staying. Hope!! yous missed the important bit above - the incentive. Sure, I'll give you back the instrument I lifted, if you grease my palms with a few (hundred) dollars!! ...
