I owned a native-american flute once upon a time but never researched the music. I know from experience that the scales and keys in the music would be a little off for the hardcore whistler. I encourage you to try though....if you can play by ear try that first. If you can actually find sheet music...

Well, a lot of Celtic music is pentatonic/hexatonic, so it should work pretty well :) I improvise with those scales a lot; it's fun (A Dorian and E Dorian are my favorite pentatonic scales- ABDEGA- the knotted cord is in this scale- and EF#ABDE) Are those scales generally played in the lower octave...

I shall have to try that \\I remember when learning to play an NAF, play what you see e.g. if a bird you are watching flies higher - play higher. If the bird drops - play lower. If the bird hovers - play the notes close to where you are on t...

Re: Sounds like you like your whistle

It sounds like you like the Sweetone. I have to confess I really like that whistle and its the one I'm using now. Are you sure you need to buy a different one? I own a Clark, Dixon, Shaw, Feadog and the Sweetone and I like things about each of them. For me the Sweetone never clogs, is in tune wtih ...

After a sweetone what's a good new whistle

Ok, I have been playing for two months now and I'm quite pleased how my playing's coming along :) Just wondering what is a good whistle to move upto next? I like the feel & sound of the sweetone, the Breathy flutey sound is nice. Definetely NOT too loud a whistle as I have hyperacousis and anyth...

Does anyone here play this tune? I found a version of it on 'The Session' site, but really it doesn't sound like the version I know. I have the... 'der-der-derder -der der-dader-' bit and the upper octave bit nearly worked out by ear. but I can't work out the starting note? I think it's B :-? :)

Okay, the design does like a bit awkaward but, one could try to improve it.Wonder, if there is any other way to achieve the same affect ,though. That sounds pretty good! I like it 8) There's a tunnel under the motorway here, where I get amazing reverb when I play in there. But it means a 6 mile wal...

Maybe some 0000 or so steel wool on the end of a stick, and GENTLY polish the spot in the bore? then oil it with olive oil. WD-40 would probably be more appropriate for metal, but I think it would be a bad idea in the case of a whistle. :boggle: With best regards, Steve Mack thanks I'll try that :)
