Terve, everybody! As many of you already found out, this was just a joke! In real world I can play a couple of notes on the third octave, but I mainly play those notes on my A and Bb whistles only. With higher whistles the higher notes do tend to be a bit too shrill for my taste. My car radio is bro...

Loudness/volume problems in sessions?
Terve, everybody! On this forum people have reported about their problems to get heared when playing in sessions. Well, I have no problem at all now that I mainly play in the 3rd and fourth octave. Now this is where the whistle really starts to kick in! With the normal instrument setup I don't usual...

What's the use?
Terve, everybody! Why would you want to wash a whistle? I have never washed any of my whistles (been whistling fo 2 years now) and no harm done. The condensation (and salivation) will dry in time itself and at least with my whistles the amount of bacteria has been on the low side, because none of th...

Why not delrin (polyoxymethylene (POM))
Terve, everybody! You can (at least in Finland) get POM rod quite cheap. It is easy to work on, it comes in various diameters and it is safe (used in food industry) and temperature resistant and last but not least it is available in black too! I bought one meter of 2 cm rod (enough for at least 30 w...

Re: Photos of your collection
Hi everyone, I'm new on the forum. Cavefish, can you tell me who made your bamboo flutes. Thanks. Lyn me :D You seem to have some harps too. Do you play them too, what styles? I've been tripping to harps too recently, both diatonic and chromatic. It's nice to have more weapons on your arsenal. On s...

Terve, Whitmores75087! It's been a while since I've been here, but could you or anyone else tell us exactly how do recorders (or Susatos) buzz? Based on what I have read here I thought the majority here considers recorder sound as too clean or too pure, not buzzy. I have never heard a recorder buzz ...

Can we get Michael Jordan, or Sting to appear on the packaging? Hmmm... Michael Jordan? Things look very diffrent here on earth. Perhaps James Galway would boost sales for Generation. He is after all known for playing the tin whistle. Your bussiness analysis looks very sound though! James who? Do y...

'Out of tune' means to me: not in tune with a tuner. Do you really test your whistles against a tuner? I mean really? What good is that for anybody when the real test should be with your ear! Every single note of a tune has to be adjusted on-the-go and you need your ear, especially if you play with...

Terve, PeterB! Now I know where the problem lies. From your description I would say that your top hole is too small. Try to make it bigger until you get in tune C nat with 0xx 000. (pls check if you get in tune C nat with 0x0 000 then I'm sure this is the problem. Another symptom associated with thi...

Thanks for comments! I, on the contrary like to feed you :D There's not much in common with sound production of clarinet and whistle and the same principles are not applicable. I understand that with reeds there _is_ a whole lot options to control the sound but with whistle there is not. Pls read my...

Controlling your whistle
Terve, everybody! Every now and then somebody states that Susatos have to be controlled. "As long as you can control it..." Blah! I'm getting sick n tired to read this over and over. And over once again. There's _nothing_ special about Susatos regarding to "control". With every s...

Terve, everybody! Another option for a fipple is to usesmaller pipe that fits snugly into the whistle bore. You can plug it with anything like blu-tack or even with toilet paper. Absolutely no sanding required. At least here in metric Europe it's easy to find pipes that fit inside other pipes :) Ano...

Re: Transverse vs endblown
The position is irrelevant. I own a whistle that is blown transversely through a beak soldered onto the side. I also have flutes (quenas) that are endblown. Note that I said that transverse flutes are USUALLY side-blown. And I said nothing about the position of a whistle. Position is relevant--tran...

Terve, PeterB! That is a strange problem you have. On most of my whistles (both self made and commercially available) you just have to learn right fingerings fo those highest notes (2nd C# and third D) and on most cases the third D is a bit off if I close the bottom hole (oxxoox) and sometimes it wo...
