Thanks folks. I've passed these suggestions on to him, along with ones I found on line for Amsterdam.

Any shops selling whistles in either Prague or Amsterdam?
My son is stopping over in both cities and was wondering if any shops in either city sold whistles. He's only looking for known shops, he doesn't want to be chasing down "leads" as his time will be limited. Those with websites, even if not in English, would be helpful. he will be with muft...

Re: Dolmetsch Nova tenor recorder?
Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that that the Nova required more lung power than the Yamaha for sustained notes, or that it was more difficult to keep the notes in tune the longer you sustained them? (Maybe the instrument is very sensitive to breath pressure?) Did you find the Yamaha to have mor...

Re: Dolmetsch Nova tenor recorder?
When I was deciding on a plastic tenor a couple of years back I had the opportunity to try a few different instruments during my local recorder group's monthly meeting. Although I found the sound of the Nova to be okay, I did find the yamaha to be a bit "deeper" in tone, which was more to ...

Hi Mack. I'm sorry to see the website go but happy that you will still be making whistles. I have two of your brass whistles and am looking forward to getting my third.

Re: Newbie question
Otherwise if I followed number 1 above I would now be happily playing tunes on my G whistle using G music and fingering as if it is a D whistle (XXXXXX=D) that comes out in C and thinking that my whistle has magically transformed the music to G when in fact it hasn't. The way you say it, you make i...

Re: Newbie question
When I crossed this 'pons asinorum' all I really needed to know was: (1) If you use 'standard' fingerings the tune comes out in D on a D whistle, C on a C whistle, Bb on a Bb whistle etc. (2) To make it easy we write all whistle music as if we were playing a D whistle, and then just choose the whis...

Re: Newbie question
Then there are the "keys" of an instrument with keys. Who made this stuff up anyway? :P Since the "keys" on my instruments with keys don't open any locks or serve a purpose other than as finger extensions I think thay can safely be considered non-keys. But if removed is the inst...

Re: Quick "Low" G question, NOT transposition
Whoever schedules the intervention for Cutterpup, count me in. Clearly it's coming ...and soon. :D :o Hey I'm done and gave my thanks..notice I did not ask about the T word. I got some really good advice to ponder on the various hows and whys the G whistle might be used. Even better, I really think...

Re: Quick "Low" G question, NOT transposition
Thanks to all who responded. You have helped me open up to ways to enjoy my G whistle and still not be "off key" to others I may be playing with. 9 tunes out of 10 that my group plays are jigs or reels in either D or G. These I play using my D whistle. For the slower, more mellow songs, I'...

Re: Quick "Low" G question, NOT transposition
I referenced D whistles because if I am playing tje G octave up, the tone is so close to the D that I was wondering if it would even be worth the effort to play tje H when the same tune could be played on a D whistle. My question has been answered. I see now that there isn't a third option that I'm ...
