Thanks for the suggestions everyone - and the Battlefield band was a great one. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that, but I've just picked up a few things from watching them on ebay. I've had less success with DADGAD, but that's probably my limitation. There's a few days left, and I'm still open ...

For that price, I'd stay away from Martin's Doc. Check out Larrivee. You can get an L-09 or OM-09 for under 2K. Handmade in California, solid sitka spruce tops, solid rosewood sides and back, maple binding, bound ebony fret boards, natural high gloss finish, and they sound and play like nothing else...

Hi again James, I assume you'er guitar is amplified? That's the only way you'll stand a chance against a GHB, as Baglady points out. Otherwise it won't matter one whit what chords you play or don't! The event will be well mic'ed...and that's the problem really :( I would think very highly of anyone...

You don't play guitar with GHB. That is why they have drones. It's like playing guitar with a pipe organ. I just attended a pipe organ concerto and the organ drowned out the large chamber orchestra. It's a nice idea but just doesn’t work in the end. And the organ has a volume control unlike the Pip...

Thanks Tim! That's a start. I've played both instruments for years, but have never tried to reconcile them. Playing with other instruments isn't really in the culture of the GHB (with the exception of drums, of course). It's becoming clear to me why that is. I find that I can get by with a capo on t...

HELP!: Guitar accompaniment for the GHB
Hey Folks,
I'd appreciate any advice anyone might have about playing accompaniment for the Highland pipe on guitar. Tuning, chord progressions - any insights would be helpful.
I'm especially interested in playing for hornpipes and jigs.
Thanks!
James

Hi folks! The whistles appear to be sold. Thanks for all the interest (I'm thinking they may have been reduced a few dollars too much!:)). I'm going to miss these. Query: Why, when I've sold these for much needed cash, do I find myself already looking for replacements?...I can't afford another attac...

FS: O'Brien set (reduced)
Hello Chiffers! I posted these a while back, but after the first potential buyer packed out, I just never got around to bumping or reposting. So here they are again (at a reduced price!): a set of copper O'Brien whistles. One head, five bodies (Bb, C, D, Eb, E), lightly used (the nickel coating has ...

I guess the little missus would object to you dashing over to the musicians' pit in the middle of the ceremony. Although, if I could get the rest of the players in the wedding party, maybe I could do the whole thing sitting down, pipes at the ready... On second thought, maybe the original plan woul...

Piper in Costa Rica?
I'm looking for an uilleann piper to play at a wedding in Costa Rica (mine, actually). There will be other musicians there as well (fiddle, flute, etc.), all advanced players. If anyone knows any pipers of some competence living there, I'd appreciate a contact.
Thanks.
James
Thanks.

Re: Irony? And a thought.
I played highland pipes at a pretty high level - I was in a top band when I was 14, and by 22, I was already getting sick of it. I must admit that a big part of my discontent had to do with 'the politics' in that world. It's a story I know I don't have to go into here -quote] Join the club ! Patric...

Canpiper, you are attempting to defy the laws of physics here. Consider that time is relative to speed according to Einstien's General Theory. You don't posses the resources to travell any faster than the rest of us much less begin to approach the speed of light. ? You and I are puppys. We want the...
