my flute seems sharp ?
In order to get my flute to play in tune, I must pull the tuning slide out at least twice as far as any other player I have ever seen. It's a Terry McGee Rudall & Rose. Maybe I am overblowing the flute?

My son and daughters play Burke whistles. They have between them recent High D Session whistles in both Brass and Aluminum. They are different and both great whistles. I like the brass but it may be my daughters playing that make me prefer it. She also plays a low G composite which is GREAT!!!! Magi...

The funny part about this story is how clueless the perpetrators of this hate thing are. At the Irish sessions I’ve been to (in the US) the diversity of races, religions and nationalities are extraordinary. The same is true of the dance schools. At a small session I was at Monday night 4 of the 6 pl...

Unfortunately, I can guess GL probably does not have the money to pay and I can speculate that they will go bankrupt or out of business like many other small labels have leaving the master recordings and issues to the rights to the products up in the air. Can anyone knowledgeable on ownership of rec...

Funny...
It's a funny thing. I started getting some really helpful info in my inbox. I appreciate this very much but I could not figure what triggered this off. So I looked in this thread and I could not for the life of me remember posting this question. I worried that perhaps my short term memory was going ...

Set-up...
String height off the frets (saddle/nut adjustment and amount of relief (truss rod adjustment). There are all sorts of other smaller issues. Often the guitar comes out of the factory with too much material above the slots in the nut which causes the ping sound and makes it difficult to tune. The fre...

Starter whistles
My kids started with $4 Clark Sweetones and then graduated to good Burke whistles. They got good on the $4 whistles and can still make those whistles sound good (to a point)

That is a cannon of a guitar! I played one a guy brought into a session and it filled up the room in a hurry! Congrads-enjoy. Get it set up to your liking (that's VERY importent).

The answer to all questions... I've spoken with Doc in a previous purchase and he was indeed great to work with. I will try to call him tomorrow. Patrick did invite us down to his shop. I just have to find the time to do that trip. We are in Baltimore. My son is fairly new to flute but is a mean whi...

Advice for flute hunter...
My son is saving up (possibly) to order an Olwell flute. He is looking for a good wooden flute that has that rich lower end Irish flute players like. If it has keys all the better but price and time seem to dictate a keyless flute. To get this kind of flute are there any options to waiting a long pe...

Sweet flute in G
My daughter has one. It's very nice and so is the price but it not being in D means it doesn't go to the session.
