Yes, I knew what they were called but I just thought I would share the most commonly heard description of them that I hear around here. Strange description but yes, they are very, very good for developing said hand, finger and arm muscles. You might even be on the lookout for them if any of you go t...

And on that same note, whilst playing uilleann you must be careful of both your arms. Make sure you are not sporadically and wildly pumping the bellows all the time, and that you are not trying to choke the life out of the bag with your other arm, especially when trying to reach the upper octave. Th...

Another thing to help develop finger strength, dexterity, and coordination is pen spinning. Roll a pen as many different ways as you can up and down through your fingers, over the palm side and the back side. You can also get therapy balls for your hands, as in those things commonly described as &qu...

Thanks. I have since found the old Daniel Bingamon site with his original plans and his updated version, which I believe is linked on this site.

Bagwhistles

I am curious if anybody on here has either heard of or built a bagwhistle in the past. I saw a site that showed you how to build them once, but I never paid it any attention. I build smallpipes and uilleann pipes and have been for some time, but I am just getting really interested in such an instrum...

Indeed, it is. I usually spell it the former way as opposed to Steáfán because most people tend to murder his name, as they do with mine. As such, they tend to think it is the correct spelling.

And on that note, I also very highly recommend the Stephane Hannigan book. Most bodhranists have this in their collection or have had it at some point or another.

Indeed the focus on modern technique is rather disappointing, but make no mistake about it, it is very well taught. I myself would have rather seen the old style used by his father, who I love listening to. But and then again, many and/or most modern players are in that out with the old/in with the ...

That site is actually very good. And yes, those t-shirts were hilarious! I am going to try and submit reviews for some of the as-yet unreviewed tutor books/videos listed on the site.

Again, thanks for the post. To me it is obvious to not to try and begin learning such a thing with Irish tunes. I have tried all of those programs before, and for the past 20 years I have been working slowly and long with no avail. If 20 years is not long enough, to at least gain something of which ...

Yes it does, literally, but in the context of song (as many traditional titles do) it gets re-interpreted so as not to mix up any other songs with similar or exact titles. And since in English "Child Jesus" rather incorrect, you would actually say "Christ Child", but yes, in the ...

Gaelic song on 'The Nephew"

I was wondering if anybody on here has seen the movie called "The Nephew" and if they can identify the song sung at the wake, led by Hill Harper who played Chad Egan Washington. If you are needing anymore actors to remember the film by, there was the late Donal McCann, Sinéad Cusack, Pierc...
