Fav. sites for buying CDs online?
I'm a little out of touch on this...I usually use the "used" section of Amazon but thought some of you fine folks might hold some secret gems...

Christmas wish list...
It's that time of year again...I'm getting pinged on what I might want from co-workers, cousins, in-laws, etc....and of course I have nary a clue. Help me with ideas for about $25. I already have: * Mikie Smyth's CD * Brian McNamara - Fort of the Jewels * Steve Harris Bagpipe Tool (two?, one for GHB...

If you were starting now...
If you were starting new from scratch--knowing what you know now--what would you do differently to help your piping? Would you have played whistle until your 1/4 set came? Perhaps bought a "budget model" 1/4 set (like what Pipeworks of Boston is putting out) to get your pipes sooner, rathe...

Burke or Reyburn...?
I'm thinking of getting my first high-end whistle. I have never heard either of these makers but they seem to get good reviews all around. Does one have a distinct advantage or "plus" over the other (I'm not trying to sling mud either)? I am thinking of going narrow-bore since I'm still ra...

CD rehash...
I've picked up quite a few new trad CDs over the past few years. Not all uilleann pipes focused of course but mostly in that vein. I find myself gravitating back to only a few for repeated listenings that don't get old. One is Fisher Street and the other is Tommy Martin's CD. Obviously different typ...

Did you try paying for it? I think that one has the printing feature locked on the evaluation version. Go ahead and pony up the $20 or whatever it is. I've used it for years and more than gotten my money's worth out of it. M I paid for it. Even asked the guy from whom I downloaded it to help. Didn'...

Mouth blown UPs
Traditional issues aside, do you think recent developments in moisture control like Ross systems (Highland pipers will know what this is) could allow for mouth blown uilleann pipes?

Mandolin/Fiddle
Are these two instruments played "similarly"...barring the obvious differences... Does the fretboard of the mando 'mimic' the neck of the fiddle? I heard one very prominent piper tell me the instruments were virtually twins 'twer it not for the bow of the fiddle and dual strings of the man...

Re: The outrageous cost of pipes
I would go so far as to say that unless you are a professional piper, making your living from playing the music, you have no business spending more than $6000 on a full set. Why? Because it's immoral to spend that much money on something that is not essential in making your living. My gut reaction ...

Drone stock strap thingy...
I've seen many pipers use a strap around their left shoulder to keep the drone stock "up" a bit. What do you use? Anything work better for some people than others?
