I lost a Clarke Original in the Cranberry Wilderness in West Virginia a few years ago.
I still mourn.

Re: Just Saying Hi
Funny Story: There was a guy who heard that there was a phone in Rome where you could call Heaven. So he traveled there. Found the phone and the people who ran the phone told him the cost was $5,000 per minute. He said he wasn't paying that. They told him there was a similar phone in Jerusalem. He ...

The Eagle
I just finished watching "The Eagle." It was great! Can anyone tell me the names of the Celtic tunes there? Especially the very last tune played during the credits? I wanna find music for it.

I apologize to everyone for being inflammatory with my last post. It is not my intention to antagonize people.

Re: Do you like it chiffy or do you like it sweet?
I like pure, sweet-sounding whistles...when I'm ten feet away! Otherwise, they're too hard on my sensitive ears.
But besides that, I love the sound of a breathy whistle, like my Clarke original or Kelpie. To me this is just the best!

Welcome, Stormie Gail!
There just aren't enough whistlers in the world, thanks for joining us!
You'll find most people love the sounds you make. Don't be afraid to take it outside to play!

Re: Acting on Impulse (Hi)
Welcome!!
You will like it here; lots of friends and good advice.
You are at the start of a fun road! Whistles are easy to start with (sounding "Irish" takes longer). And they're immensely portable!
I drove my wife and kids to distraction learning...and I'd do it again!

Re: For low D players...
However, a couple of friends made comments like "...sounds like India!" Are you sure they don't mean "Indian" as in Native American? That seems like it would make more sense coming from an American listener. Actually, no, they meant India! I was playing Irish slow airs. Of cours...

For low D players...
Dear Whistlin' Buddies, A few months ago I acquired a MK Whistles Kelpie low D, and my friends and family immediately christened it my best whistle. I also fell in love with its husky, deep sound. I can play it forever even with my sensitive ears! However, a couple of friends made comments like &quo...

I love to look at whistle websites, probably for the same mysterious reason I love movie trailers.

Re: Gratitude for all whistle makers....
I second all those mentioned, and add Tony Dixon as well. An especially big thanks, as Maki said, to Robert Clarke, whose original design is still astounding for its simplicity, not only of the whistle itself, but in the type of low-tech tools that could be used to make it, and for its lovely disti...

Re: MK low D (noob reviews)
I fully agree! It's one of the things I really like about MKs, the interesting/dirty/complex tone in the 2nd octave. But, one could describe the tone of High B as having a tinge of harshness. It's all good to me, but many others don't like it. Thanks! That helps explain what I'm hearing with my Kel...
