Re: Making a PVC whistle

The other big annoyance is finding dowel that will fit with no (or minimal) sanding This problem is simple to solve - just buy a lathe. You know you want to and the sooner you do it the fewer your regrets will be once you do buy one and wonder why you waited for half your life before doing it!! The...

Re: March Blues

Up North in Oldham Up North in Oldham? :boggle: >Sigh< Yes, you are more Northern than me. But We're at the borders of Yorkshire here, and "oop narth" is a saying. Besides which, there is an Oldham in London, and unless you make it clear, all those provincial Londoners think you're talkin...

Re: March Blues

Up North in Oldham, tempers fizzle
Due in part, to daily drizzle.
But it does happen, once or twice
That folk can say "It's turned out nice".

Re: Lyric search

It's about the diyso, which is a kind of water-taxi in Valetta harbour in Malta. It was written by a chap who was in the UK navy, and was stationed there. Apparently a big queue builds up at the end of the evening when the bars close. It's written in couplets, with a refrain of "And the last bo...

Lyric search

I have an ear worm - "Call away the Diyso". I want the lyrics so I can exorcise this. I couldn't find it on YouTube, and even the Mudcats forum has let me down. Perhaps my spelling is at fault. If anyone can help, or remind me of the singer, I would be much obliged.

Re: New to forum

Now, I may be being a bit retro here, but back a few years ago, bandying the term "celtic" around here was considered ...um... "fraught with pretension". Has this usage lost its stigma?

Re: New to forum

That's a pretty piece of music. I'm impressed (maybe fearful) of hammer dulcimer. I have two friends with recently acquired instruments, and the more ebullient one got pretty good quickly and the more shy one was daunted and has let it lapse, I think. When she showed me how to play the scale on the ...

Long time no see.

Hi there, people. I haven't been here for a long time. Sorry. I still have my whistles, and my overtone flutes, but I haven't touched them for a while. I moved from Buckinghamshire in the UK Home Counties, to Greater Manchester in the UK North Midlands (right on the Yorkshire border!). My musical ha...

Re: Survey: Pocket Knives

Ha ha. It's kind of irritating that I can't carry my athame - which is a beauty, hand-made by a guy who is either out of business or trading under a different name now - but I'm glad it's difficult for those buggers who insist on carrying swords to rituals. Why? Is this a Crocodile Dundee sort of th...
