Re: For Sale: E Regulator

I’ll toss the other regulator (baritone, with D, G and A keys) in the deal. Like I said, I’m financing a future project/purchase.

Re: For Sale: E Regulator

Yes, where the tenor regulator goes. Or, it can be mounted inboard or outboard with a connected tube.

Re: Rushing the Bore to Flatten Notes

Thanks, m4malious. I appreciate the possiblity that the comparison may not be valid — I was thinking that the most difficult one is that our vocal apparatus doesn’t have tone holes (but we change the shape and size of it by moving our mouths, things in the mouth, etc. However, I may have confused yo...

Rushing the Bore to Flatten Notes

I am curious as to why notes are lowered when we rush the bore of a chanter or regulator. I’m not disputing that this is exactly what happens, but it’s always seemed a bit counterintuitive to me (and not just me — a longtime piper, maker and “poster emeritus” on this forum once said unprompted that ...

Re: Extra Notes on Baritone Regulator

That’s what I was wondering. (The other option does seem to be more possible, though.)

Extra Notes on Baritone Regulator

I've heard stories, e.g., regarding Padraig McGovern's set, etc. that an E note can be added to a baritone regulator. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, is it possible to add B and C notes to a baritone regulator?

Re: Another material for reeds.

That’s really fascinating, especially that the reed, coming from a bull’s horn, is harder than the soft wood from which the chanter is made.

Re: What if ?

PS: apparently one or two makers are developing a Medium Bore D and speak well of it. Perhaps this might be part of an answer for some pipers who visit a variety of sessions, to carry several chanters of varying loudness ? “I prefer the bass to be purring like a cat eating liver!” Would Tom A...
