Re: Stating the Obvious
I would like to add that not all chanter reeds sit under the piper's left arm. Such as mine. =)

Re: Your Favorite B Whistle?
Never tried the Humphrey... What are they like? Any audio files I might be able to listen to? Course, this won't give me much on how they play since I don't have one in my hands to try, but I'm curious none the less.

Re: Your Favorite B Whistle?
Susatos I found to be: Reminiscent in tone to that of a recorder... (blah) Their tone-hole spacing on the bottom hand to be a little more uncomfortable then say a Generation or Feadog, (I have small hands for a guy) and the biggest was the way they played. Not as responsive in finding notes, (such a...

Re: Your Favorite B Whistle?
Yeah i saw the Generation Bb conversion plans a while ago and even had some success with it. I even tried it on a C whistle making a C# whistle out of a Feadóg with some success. But the amount of tape needed to correct the scale impeeded the tonal performance of the whistle... So i now want somethi...

Your Favorite B Whistle?
As in, B natural. As in, I'm a piper... Looking for a B whistle to play along with other pipers in B. But since I don't have a B set, a whistle will do. For now...
Was looking at maybe a Burke, either in brass, possibly aluminum. Not interested in the composite whistles to be honest.
Cheers,

Re: Which Anti-Virus Software?
It's ironic, going off-topic in an off-topic forum. Quite the conundrum.
But seriously I do appreciate the input presented here, although I stil find myself left with the uncertainty of which one to try. I'm funny like that.

Which Anti-Virus Software?
It's been a while since I've been on these boards, but a recent run in with a nasty, extremely frustrating, and costly virus has me wondering of what anti-virus software others would reccommend for my windows 7 laptop. The Geek Squad guy I spoke to at Best Buy "personally reccommended" Nor...

Re: FS: Pelican 1700 hard case
I have one just like this. If this should sell and another person would like one, they can have mine for a similar price. (buyer pays shipping and insurance) I paid $200 for mine brand new at Cabela's. about 3 years ago. A bit overkill for uilleann pipes, but you could park a truck on this case, and...

Re: Why do we have to learn complex ornamentation on the UP
Depends, do you want your music to be simple, or do you want your music to sound interesting. As for the pipes, I don't think there is anything simple about them. I believe a lot of the "complex ornamentation" is what makes the UP's sound so unique. I think it's unproductive to get caught ...

Re: Why are there so few female pipers ?
Eric, maybe it's the type of women you talk to or the way you talk about the pipes to women. I've only EVER had men say that to me about the pipes. I believe it's the women who I talk to. I don't believe it's how I talk to them (or anybody else for that matter) about the pipes. I will let them know...

Re: Why are there so few female pipers ?
I have to respectfully disagree that the fiddle or violin is more expressive then the uilleann pipes. Expression is of course in the hands of the player, but given that, I still feel the pipes win this match no contest. That's not putting down the fiddle either, it's a great instrument, but I believ...
