Re: Susato "V" series. Any reviews?
In enjoy my Susatos! In my opinion the best whistle in the VSB series is the Eb (but E and D are also quite good). In the SB series the best are the C and the B (while the D and Bb are also quite good and worth adding to your rack).

I would add my vote for the Susato. The favourite B whistles in my rack are Susato and Overton.

Re: low low b on a high d whistle?
The only person I've actually seen to pull this off in performance is Brian Finnegan. He must have extra long fingers; he also plays low F whistle with standard (not piper's) grip. I think I've seen Andrea Corr do this on a motorbike, but I was somewhat distracted. Well, that's a good excuse for po...

Re: low low b on a high d whistle?
Your question has been well answered by other posters. Just out of interest though, on a high D whistle the lowest note [for emergency use only] is Db/C# which is achieved by shading the end of the whistle with the lowest pinkie. Seated recorder players occasionally play an extra low note by shading...

Re: 2,000 yr old whistle or flute wall painting in Petra Jordan
Here is a photo I took recently of a mosaic in ancient Corinth. It looks to me like another traverse flute. The mosaic is from a Roman house and also dates to about 2,000 years ago. I read somewhere of a Cornelius of Corinth who apparently won the prize for playing flute at various Roman games. Ther...

Hmmm.... I think I might start cleaning whistle more regularly after reading that article.

Re: Best D under $100
Mellow Dog, Impempe and Feadog are all very nice whistles and cost less than $100. Get all three!
I'm a fan of Susatos in some keys but D is not one of them.

Re: What's your favorite C whistle & why?
My favourite is Susato. I love the tone and it plays perfectly with just the right amount of complexity and backpressure. Other C whistles in my rack that I particularly enjoy are: Burke aluminium, Overton, Chieftain, a Gen nickel with a Walton head and a Feadog nickel.

Many countries around here produce whistles, and even recorders, with the window underneath.

Kesh Jig, which was learnt about 10 years ago from my first whistle book: "The Complete Irish Tinwhistle Tutor" by L E McCullough! It took a long time before I could play it convincingly.

Re: Anyone else using a Moleskine music notebook?
I have used Moleskine music notebooks for some years now. They are perfect for travelling, which I do a lot of. They are small but I usually only need to be reminded of the first few notes of a tune so I don't have to do a lot of squinting.
