Re: Cuts on Boehm with trill keys

Hello everyone, coming out of lurk mode, I make use of the trill keys for cut like effects, but not in ITM. Seeing this post, while at work, promted me to think about it, as it has become an unconsious part of my performance style. This evening I played through a bunch of my favorite ITM tunes, and ...

Thank you for the good advice, about the museum and the police, Ceili_whistle_man. I have been saved from a certain protocol transgression! Where I come from a wedge is a big french fry.

what MUST you do in Belfast?

Hello everyone, I have not been in this forum for a long time, but I notice many of the same people are still here. I hope everyone is well. I will be in Belfast for the International computer Music Conference next week. This conference is very full on, with little time to see its location, but I wa...

Being a confirmed member of the "it the player" camp, (I often can't tell which flute I played on recordings, once it is all mixed), I can hear three distinct tone colours, the middle one being "brighter" than the beginning and the end. It is worth noting that the different mic p...

Nice playing Glauber. Good idea. The mix sounds a bit strange to me at times, but that is probably an arfifact of the compression used for the web streaming. How much is improvised? Interesting 'woody" sound from the Hoza head.

It is an electroaccoustic music festival at the conservatory. I'm not playing or presenting, just attending, for a change.

Hello everyone, stepping out of lurk mode (briefly), I use a Hoza head on a yamaha 784 as my main flute for non irish and non classical performances. It has a very rich tone. When I first got it , I was using it on my workhorse flute, an emerson model 8, and a friend who I often play with made the o...

At the beginning of the year, I got a new boehm flute. I tried muramatsu (which I found very focused b.t.w.)and yamaha and settled on the yamaha 784, due to the fact I could get a very cheap price here. They were both very good. I also have an old sankyo which is still really good (closed hole thoug...

Thanks Roger,
very illuminating. I now know I was using "modern fingering" for 35 years, thinking it was baroque! It is funny, the article says that german fingering is on the decline, but here in Singapore, all the kids seem to have german, not modern.

Hi everyone, I use multiphonics sometimes. As well as messing around with my own fingurings, I found the virtual flute site very helpful in finding out the fingerings. It models the physics of 3 boehm flute designs to work out what a given fingering will produce. It also does microtones! The link is...

To question the sailing analogy, does this mean a F flute is like a windsurfer, and a G flute is like kite board. I actually think the Bb is closer to a soling, with the stability of having a keel. I would have thought Flying dutchmen are a bit "hairy" in a "blow"!

Hi everyone,
I visited terry, while back in australia on holiday, and tried a number of his flutes. I just found that my embouchure techhnique seemed to adapt better to the pratten flutes than the rudall, in terms of fine control of tone color, and power.
