Re: Free Very Bad Eb Flute

I recently received a donation of a very bad Eb Flute. It is nice looking enough and when you blow into it it makes flutey sounds. Sadly the intervals between those sounds don't seem to relate to any know musical scale. Making musical sense of it would require smoking large amounts of Pakistani Has...

I am a new comer to the flute and have come from the whistle. I found it hard to believe that different materials could greatly affect the tone of a whistle. I soon learned that even in all metal whistles, different metals produced quite different tone. When I moved to the flute, I first got me a Do...

as many as 20 markings on a single bladder full.

Oh - Eh - perhaps you were reffering to something else???

Tony, some month ago i would have agreed with you, but now the more i play the more i find that technique is VERY important, because if you now exactly how to play an instrument it will be a lot easier to express yourself in the way you like... at the beginning most of the work will be learning tun...

Re: beyond

I named this topic "Playing beyond your skill level." Last night, I played my monthly gig, guitar and flute at a small restaurant in a small town, no sound system. What a great venue, although the last time we played, a table of rowdies set the noise level up high enough to make it diffic...

A very good post and some points to consider. 1. What is ITM and how should it be played? 2. Is the flute a lyrical or a rhythmic instrument? 3. Who has decided the style of session music? I am Irish and for me there are two basic types of Irish Traditional Music. a. Dance music and b. Songs or lyri...

Sure you will be in one of the best places in Ireland for both music and pots. Loui Mulcahy has a really great place in a really great place - beautiful rugged coast - some of the best scenery Ireland has to offer and the place a lot of film was shot for Ryans Daughter. Loui has proved to be both a ...

. Good Post!!! I have long since tended to avoid pubs when wanting to enjoy music. It often turns into a decibel battle between players and patrons. You can notice the same battle take place at other venues especially at weddings. The volume is racked up - up - up as the night goes on in a completly...

How very insightful Talasiga!!! I could not agree more. The idea of it all stemming from the vocal is very much the Celtic tradition also. "If you cannot sing it properly, you cannot play it properly" Phrasing, tone, and above all meaning in the music, is so important, regardless of instru...

Flatley is admired and respected by Matt Molloy and by Mike Rafferty. The man's a genius - that's clear to me if not to ye slackers. Give the guy a break. You don't have to love him. If you lived in Italy wouldn't you try to sound like an Italian? What's wrong with trying to sound like an Irishman?...

I've always used almond oil, but as my supply was dwindling, I thought I'd give Bore Doctor a try. I oiled my flute with it a couple days ago, and it's fantastic stuff. Most of the thin layer I applied soaked into the wood, leaving very little to wipe off. My flute's bore has never looked dull, but...

Re: Embouchure help?

Anyone in or around Wheeling, WV? I would like to get a quick emboucher session if possible... I can get a good, strong low D on my Tipple flutes, but not on my new Copley! I suspect it's me, since I know the Copley is a fine flute. If possible, I'd like to get a quick coaching session - free would...
