I'm shooting for the edgy sound usually, aiming for the lowest air requirement I can muster. I look for a tone that sort of penetrates without being loud.

Sometimes however, my lips just won't behave. So I play anyway.

bump!

I've had a lot of nibbles but no bites yet!

Aanvil, it's not so much that I need the money, it's more the case that I need to pay for my new concertina (I guess that means I need the money :) ).

For Sale - JonC Blackwood flute

Hello All - I'm selling my Cochran keyless blackwood RR style with large holes. It has a partially lined head with a Terry McGee tuning slide. It has fancy rings which are very nice. I bought the flute about a year ago. The flute is well made with attention to detail. the holes are cut nice and clea...

I have long thin fingers, so a reach is no problem for me. I do find on my Tipple that the holes are so big that my pointy fingertips dip into the hole (especially left hand index finger). It seems to me that it affects the tuning of the note a little bit, so I've gravitated to smaller holes. I like...

I've spent countless hours swinging machetes, hammers and, yes, ice axes (I love those frozen waterfalls!). I've not had any numbness problems even after days and days of cutting hard scrub oak with a machete, although sometimes general soreness and fatigue. I would suggest that improved technique i...

Oooooh, I LOVE that...I'm stealing that phrase (there's just so many areas of my life where I can use it!)
I wish I could take credit for it, but I stole it myself. From where I can't remember.

I stopped in one night in September of last year hoping to hear some music, and lo and behold Mr. Molloy himself was there playing. The place was packed. A couple of other flutes and a fiddle I think. A few good singers from the crowd. It was a nice night. The standard at that session was quite high...

All good advice. I found that once my embouchure improved and I could play tunes efficiently on the flute, I stopped wanting to play the whistle. there's much less control over tone and volume. Tonguing never crossed over from whistle for me. Even now I'll tongue a note on the whistle and use a glot...

I too have started a flute beard. Mine has been growing about a month, and I've noticed some profound changes. Firstly, it makes me look older which has definitely improved my machismo which of course makes me play better. My new found masculinity allowed me to me take up yoga, which has improved my...

Ok, I haven't tried playing lefty, but I am a lefty. I understand why you want to switch. All those flutes available and only a few playable lefty. I started playing tin whistle righty purely by accident. I knew nothing of technique when I picked up the whistle and learned 'Oh Suzannah' and such. By...
